The Digital Libraries have emerged as a crucial component of global information infrastructure, adopting the latest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to promote an organisational structure that encourages communication and resource sharing between the academician and scholars across the nations. The present paper gives an overview of the latest developments, which have been taken place in the areas of digital library and an attempt is also made to give a brief account of Indian initiatives for establishing digital libraries and also effort taken by university/ institutional libraries to transform themselves from the traditional libraries to computerised and ultimately digital or hybrid libraries. In addition to that some initiatives taken by North Eastern States for the digitisation of manuscripts and rare materials, preservation of digital content etc have also been described in brief.Item Quality Control Issues for Design, Development and Maintenance of Web Sites(INFLIBNET Centre, 2006-02-02) Bhattacharjee, Jayanta; Sinha, Manoj Kumar; Manoj Kumar K.Websites have become indispensable tools for posting the information of an organization for the global population. It plays an important role in spreading information throughout the world. There are millions of web sites available which have been created by the web site designer using special markup languages called HTML (Hypertext Mark-up Language), XHTML, CSS, Javascripts, VB scripts or other advance level languages like XML, Java, ASP, JSP etc. The IT professionals who are expert in designing and developing of the web sites are involved in this business. Most of the agencies that are involved in the design and development of the web sites create the web sites on commercial basis and host to the server, which are accessed over Internet. The present paper emphasizes the various issues of quality control and regular maintenance of web sites while designing and developing the web sites for any organization / institutions/ universities .The first part of the paper highlights the basics of quality control whereas the second part of the paper describes the various issues pertaining to design, development and maintenance of web sites, steps taken for designing a quality web sites, consideration of various aspects of quality control and regular updating of web sites, quality measure to be taken in tune with the W3Consortium recommendations.Item Region Of Quality Management Model For Knowledge Resource Management In University Libraries Of North Eastern India An Assam University Library Experience(INFLIBNET Centre, 2007-02-08) Sinha, Manoj Kumar; Rao, Y Venkata; Bhattacharjee, JayantaQuality is a relative concept, closely linked to the level of user expectation and requirements. The relative nature of quality leads ultimately to excellence. Quality management includes effectiveness and efficiency rating, cost control, service assessment, user-oriented analysis. In the University system, libraries are the backbones to support the concept of quality academic functions. Unless and until, there is a quality approach in managing knowledge resources at library, it is difficult to expect quality of academic activities in university. In order to adapt to these new circumstances, universities are implementing new management procedures, and, for their part, university libraries are forced to make fundamental changes in order to conduct their business in line with managerial criteria. In this direction, an attempt has been made on Quality Management Model for Knowledge Resource Management and presented Assam University Library as a case study.
