    Building Digital Collection: An Action Plan for IGNCA & ECI Library

    This paper will discuss about action plan of IGNCA &ECI Library and explains the infrastructure (Hardware, Software and Network) and the most common issues which are arise in requirement for creating and managing the E-collections. It provides web based mechanism to deposit and access the same to the user community on to their desktop through intranet. It also illustrates how to build up digital repository using the DSpace software and creating the community, subcommunity. This paper also focus about how IGNCA Digital Library provides cost effective facility for systematic archiving of research results and others documents of the institution.

    Digital preservation is increasingly recognised as a vital part of managing digital resources This paper presents an over view of various Digital Preservation initiatives being undertaken. The purpose of this paper is to provide guidance, based on our practical experience to those who wish to manage their digital collections. Appropriate materials, identification, metadata, copying, preservation and access consideration are dealt with in practical terms to help you understand how to manage your digital resources. This paper is an attempt to describe digital library initiatives being undertaken at IGNCA. This paper does not claim that the suggestions being presented here are the only possible answers, but we do believe that our experiences may help many people to get a start on managing and preserving their digital collections.

    Protecting Digital Intellectual Property: An Indian Scenario

    Developments in information communication technologies has brought about an accelerated information explosion and huge change in how information is being produced, processed, stored and communicated. Information is now being made available in digital format accessed via electronic networks such as the Internet, and being stored or preserved in digital archives or collections. In addition, digital information can be manipulated and disseminated very easily. Such forms of development have resulted in major concerns in the protection of digital information sources under existing copyright and other related laws and regulations. This Paper examines the efforts being made to revise copyright laws in order to include the protection of digital information sources, and the role library and information professionals and institutions around the world, can play to ensure that revised copyright laws do not have a negative impact on the free flow of information and access to digital information sources. The situation regarding copyright laws, digital information and libraries in India is discussed and numbers of observations are made. Also discusses the role of IFLA for protecting electronic Intellectual Property Right. It focuses on various categories of Intellectual Property Rights viz. Patent, Design, Trade Marks and Copyright in the light of utility of information related to Indian scenario.
