    Adopting Nudge Theory in Academic Libraries

    Purpose -This paper examines the nudge theory revealed by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein in their book “Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth and Happiness” and the possibilities of its applications in academic libraries to enhance library services and library use. This paper tries to identify various nudge ideas and apply them to academic library environment. Application of nudge theory shall bring new insights for library professionals to influence users. Nudge theory will help librarians to become choice architects who have the responsibility for organizing the contexts in which people make decisions.

    Analytical Study of Typographical Errors in OPACS and Corrective Measures

    The present study is an attempt to highlight the problem of typographical errors in OPACS. The errors made while typing catalogue entries as well as importing bibliographical records from other libraries exist unnoticed by librarians resulting the non-retrieval of available records and affecting the quality of OPACs. This paper follows previous research on the topic mainly by Jeffrey Beall and Terry Ballard. The word “management” was chosen from the list of likely to be misspelled words identified by previous research. It was found that the word is wrongly entered in several forms in local, national and international OPACs justifying the observations of Ballard that typos occur in almost everywhere. Though there are lots of corrective measures proposed and are in use, the study asserts the fact that human effort is needed to get rid of the problem. The paper is also an invitation to the library professionals and system designers to construct a strategy to solve the issue.

    Collection and Assets Management: One University Library’s Journey to the Future

    Academic libraries worldwide have witnessed a number of trends and paradigm shifts over the last decade. It is vital for university libraries to develop a collection of high standards to satisfy academics and researchers for supporting the vision and mission of a university. The area of collection development and management is the most important part of any library. This paper reports on the problems and prospects of collection and asset management of the University Library of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). The insight for the paper comes from the authors’ first-hand experience supported by literature review. Detailed information regarding the purchase of books, serials, policies regarding the acquisition, and changing trends and problems were collected from the official records with the help of a structured data sheet. The study discovers the current trends in collection and asset management in CUSAT and point out the changes likely to be adopted in future.

    A Digital Library Proposal for Engineering Libraries

The authors are associated with Cusat digital library1 that made using DSpace open source software.     Research Productivity of Universities in Kerala: Growth andTrends

    The study aims to understand the growth of scholarly literature produced by the Universities in Kerala. The study has attempted to understand the top ranking university, major research area, prolific authors, top publications,most productive year etc. The data for the study was collected from the SCOPUS database of Elsevier. Though there are 15 universities in Kerala, the study is limited to six state universities. The findings of the study revealed a total number of 11764 documents. CUSAT is the top ranking university in Kerala followed by University of Kerala and MG University.More documents were produced on Science and Engineering subjects. Growth of literature in social science is low. Compared to major universities, the growth of scholarly literature from the Universities in Kerala found to be low.

    Scholarly Communication and Institutional Ranking: A Study Based on NIRF

    The purpose of this study is to find out the link between scholarly communication and institutional ranking. The study covers National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of 2017 in relation to the scholarly productivity of top ranked institutions. The study analyses the parameters of two international ranking agencies and NIRF.The data for the study were collected through web content analysis. The study found that there is a significant correlation between scholarly communication and institutional ranking.
