    Altmetrics: The Emerging Alternative Metrics for Web Research Analysis

    The use of web 2.0 is becoming the essential part of present day life. People are spending time for many purposes and academic activities among these uses of web 2.0 social media services by users are prominent for searching, sharing, discussing, and messaging of scholarly content. The wider use of social media has given birth to various buzz words and ‘altmetrics’ is one of them. In simple words, altmetrics provides online measurement of scholars or scholarly content derived from the web 2.0 social media platforms. Altmetrics is diversified in nature and categorised in five categories i.e. (i) recommended (ii) cited (iii) saved (iv) discussed and (v) viewed. Altmetrics are becoming widely used by publishers (for showcasing research impact of authors over readers), librarians and repository managers (for adding value to their libraries and institutional repositories) and by the researchers (for complementing reading by instantly visualising papers online attention).

    Cloud-based Services: Prospects for the University Libraries

    University libraries are set to build and manage their own data centres. In this data-model libraries would gain more control over the software applications and data stores. Cloud-based technologies are here to make this possible. This paper, discusses meaning, definition, and characteristics of cloudbased computing. It emphasises on IT infrastructure and highlights the potentialities of libraries in implementation of these technologies. It also gives brief introduction to the challenges posed by cloud-based library services. The objective of this paper is to investigate and design reference architecture to digital library systems with scalability using cloud computing. This paper intend to explore the possibilities with ‘cloud-based technologies’ as ‘must adoptable’, feasible prospects for future of university library systems in building highly scalable and robust information systems.

    Perceptions and Prospects of Artificial Intelligence Technologies for Academic Libraries: An Overview of Global Trends

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) is seen as an extension of human intelligence and has taken over various sectors. Application of Artificial Intelligence in libraries has been providing a breakthrough for the information sector. Technological advancements can stimulate many human capabilities such as calculating, reading, speaking, grasping, remembering, making judgments and interactive learning. The adoption of artificial intelligence in virtual reference services is considered to provide a new online service model for libraries. Librarians are always on the cutting edge of technologies to engage and enhance services for their users, some of the valid additions include virtual realities that engages users with libraries and enhance information literacy skills. This paper attempts to trace the application and potential impact of artificial intelligence in academic libraries. The application of artificial intelligence under four domains like educational, informative, assistive and social networking have been captured and explained along with their implications.     Scholars’Lab: A Promising Academic Space For Accelerating Social Science Research

    Libraries of social science research institutions and universities striving much to offer a wide range of information and research support services to their scholars and faculty. But, an exclusive ‘scholars only’ space, is not a common sight. In this regard, this paper gives an overview of such an exclusive research space, which can be named as the ‘scholars’ lab. This also provides an outline of the ‘scholar’s lab’, its facilities, services, and softwares etc. Also, it recommends establishment of such a ‘scholars’ lab’ in every social science library.
