Item Developing Digital Libraries for Global Children Community with Special Reference to ICDL: Analysis and Evaluation(INFLIBNET Center, 2008-02-28) Jana, Sibsankar; Das, Subarna KBooks can play an important role in children’s lives. Research has shown that children’s use of books can increase their cognitive, social, and motivational development. In addition, access to narratives from different cultures can offer children opportunities to better understand the world around them as well as who they are in relation to that world. Every day the news media report misunderstandings, intolerance and outright aggression between people from different cultures. Age-old disputes over land, water, religious and cultural practices fuel intolerance. Children absorb the culture and attitudes of their community. Consequently, cycles of intolerance pass from generation to generation. But there is some hope for change: research has shown that sharing personal experiences can change attitudes. Change can happen when children read children’s books from other cultures. International Children’s Digital Library Foundation is the mother organization of the International Children’s Digital Library (ICDL). The mission of the International Children’s Digital Library Foundation is to prepare children for life in an ethnically and culturally diverse world by building the world’s largest online multicultural repository of children’s literature. Present paper attempt to highlights the analysis and evaluation of above mentioned digital library .Item Fundamentals of Knowledge Sharing in Digital Era :A Need-Based Approach(INFLIBNET CENTER, 2007-12-07) Jana, Sibsankar; Das, Subarna KKnowledge is widely recognized as a critical organizational resource irrespective of economic sector or type of organization. It is difficult if not possible to maximize the values of this resource without adequate understanding of how to leverage and share knowledge throughout the organization. Knowledge plays an important role in the overall development of intellectual capital of any organization. We are now shifting from information society to knowledge-based society, where we are not so much bothering about the visible or tangible information but deeply thinking about intangible information i.e. knowledge. In this knowledge-based society the main strategic resources are knowledge. And knowledge is the fuel, which is driving today the technology, economy, and the society itself. In this changing context there must have systematic way to capture, process, store and ultimately share knowledge for the development of an organization as well as society. Present Paper attempt to highlight the principles, efforts and barriers of knowledge sharing in Digital EnvironmentItem Towards Library 2.0: Designing and Implementing the Modern Library Service(INFLIBNET Centre, 2008-11-06) Mukhopadhyay, Parthasarathi; Das, Subarna KLibrary 2.0 is a loosely defined model for a modernized form of library service that reflects a transitionwithin the library world in the way that services are delivered to users. The focus is on user-centered change and participation in the creation of content and community. The concept of Library 2.0 borrows from that of Business 2.0 and Web 2.0 and follows some of the same underlying philosophies. This includes online services such as the use of OPAC systems and an increased flow of information from the user back to the libraryWith Library 2.0, library services are constantly updated and reevaluated to best serve library users. Library 2.0 also attempts to harness the library user in the design and implementation of library services by encouraging feedback and participation. Proponents of this concept expect that ultimately the Library 2.0 model for service will replace traditional, one-directional service offerings that have characterized libraries for centuries.Present paper highlights the chaning role of library 2.0 in present digital environment.Item Web-based Information Management at Institute of Technology & Marine Engineering Library: A Case Study(INFLIBNET Centre, 2010-02-18) Mal, Debkumar; Das, Subarna KWeb-based library & information service makes easy for any library to deliver information through a variety of deployment options over the Internet or Intranet.
