Only inclusion of the ICT application in the syllabus cannot help them to encounter with challenges in the working environment in the library and information centres. Here two approaches i.e. interdisciplinary and inter-institutional have been put forwarded which can be considered to develop the skills of the LIS professionals. Also the efforts of some the organizations and institutes related to LIS in India are highlighted.Item OAI-PMH: A Tool for Metadata Harvesting and Federated Search(INFLIBNET Centre, 2007-12-07) Deka, DipenThis paper focuses on the importance of OAI-PMH in the aspect of accessibility to the digital repositories. The basic structure of OAI-PMH and its functional elements are given along with some existing metadata harvester services of India. The paper discusses about the PKP Harvester software and its users. Concludes that OAI-PMH is an effective solution of the problem of lack of interoperability.Item Quality Assurance in Library and Information Science Education in India: Issues and Challenges(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Deka, Dipen; Mazumdar, Nirmal Ranjan; Singh, Sanjay KumarThe objective of this study is to look into the process of quality assurance of Library and Information Science (LIS) Education in India. Review of literature is done on the library and information science education globally to collect information on LIS education and its quality assurance. The study finds that apart from of few agencies like ALA in USA and CILIP in UK there is no agency or body at national and international level for quality assurance of LIS education. The study is limited to quality assurance of LIS education in India only. This paper enlightens about the quality assurance in LIS education in India. The different publishers have taken the full advantage of publishing the research outputs of the academicians and deprive the institutions and the community of the institution from the research outputs. This paper explores the importance of Institutional Repository (IR) and the role of the Open Source Software (OSS) in building the Institutional Repository of any institution. To publish and serve the community of an institution building institutional repositories is the most feasible solution. We have to take the help of some special software packages to build up an institutional repository and the role of open source software in this regard is very important. Bookmarking tools like delicious, twitter, flickr, connotea, etc are very popular and useful regarding the use of internet and web resources in a systematic and scientific way. It integrates and accurate the unlimited data and explosive information over internet and World Wide Web in a very controlled manner. This paper explains the various aspects of tagging and social bookmarking and the practical experiences in modern library services in the digital era.Item A Topic Modeling Study on Contemporary Latent Topics and Current Trends in Open Access LIS Journals listed in DOAJ(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Thakuria, Abhijit; Bezbaruah, Parimita; Deka, DipenThe study employed Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling to analyze bibliographic data (Titles, Abstracts, and Keywords) of 1640 articles published during 2019-2023 from Open Access LIS journals listed in the DOAJ platform and indexed in Scopus database. The study utilized R statistical platform and used coherence method to determine optimal number of topics k=8. This analysis unveiled eight latent topics, with Topic 8 'Library Management' emerging as the most prevalent topic with prevalence score of 23.291. Moreover, Topic 6 'Knowledge Management' and Topic 4 'Bibliometrics' were identified as stable and popular topics, with respective Annual Growth Rates (AAGR) of 15.99% and 12.39% in OA LIS literature.
