    Development of Digital Libraries in India: Socio-Economic Problems and Prospects

    Due to the information revolution, Digital Libraries are developing all over the world to collect, store and communicate the information through electronic media. Compared to the different developed countries, there is slow development of digital libraries in India. This is so because of many social, political and economical factors. These factors include Growing Population, Illiteracy, Low standard of living, less importance to telecommunication facilities, shortage in supply of Energy Sources, lower number of computer and Internet users. To improve the use of Information Technology applications, the Government of India and different state government already initiated certain policies and projects. The paper also discussed the policies and projects of Central and different State Governments to increase the use of Information Technology applications in administration.

    Training of the Library Professionals in Digital Era: Key Issues

    The present paper examines the developments in the Information and Communication Technology and its application to the Library and Information Science. As it developed the library’s functions and services, there is a need for training of the library professionals in these applications. The paper briefly explains the role of the library professionals and applications of the Information and Communication Technology applications to the libraries. The applications may be grouped as Basic Computerization, Library Automation, Electronic Services, Strategic Management, Digital Rights Management, Information Systems and Networks, etc. These are identified as key areas in which, present library and information professionals need training and competency development.

    Use of UGC- Infonet Consortium By The Faculty Members and Research Scholars in Department of Chemistry of Gulbarga University : A Survey

    The present paper explains about UGC-Infonet Consortium of the INFLIBNET and examined use of the Consortium by the Faculty Members and Research Scholars. Further, the data is collected through a questionnaire to study the information needs of the Faculty Members and Researchers in Chemistry and Use of UGC-Infonet Consortium by the Faculty Members and Research Scholars in the Dept of Chemistry, Gulbarga University, Gulbarga. The paper revealed that UGC Infonet Consortium is much helpful in fulfilling their information needs. There is need to train the faculty members and research scholars in using the UGC-Infonet Journals. Further, there is need to include more number of Journals in the Consortium.
