Item Awareness About and Use of Internet Search Engines Amongst Social Science Researchers in North East India(INFLIBNET Centre, 2006-11-09) Laloo, Bikika; Lahkar, NarendraDiscusses findings of a study conducted on Social Science researchers in two Universities in North East India. Findings show that Social Science researchers in North East India are having the same issues regarding Internet search engines as researchers in other parts of the world. Concludes that better presentation of web sites would help them get indexed by search engines and make them more accessible. Highlights main issues regarding manuscript digitization and archiving.Item Impact of Query Operators on Web Search Engine Results : An Evaluative Study(INFLIBNET Center, 2004-11) Lahkar, Narendra; Deka, Sanjib KStudy on Web search services have reported that about 90% of Web searchers using simple queries and only 10% use advanced query operators. In this study, three search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN, are compared in the areas of coverage and duplication in terms of use of Query Operators. Google is found at the top in terms of coverage, as compared with the other two search engines, i.e. MSN Search and Yahoo!. Analysis shows that there is a significant change in coverage when using query operators in all the three search engines. It is found that correct use of query operators would increase the effectiveness of web searching.Item Search Engines: The Invader to Privacy(INFLIBNET CENTER, 2007-12-07) Lahkar, Narendra; Deka, Sanjib KThe Search Engines has dominated the Internet by their popular social services. In this paper it has been discussed the magnitude of Search Engine. It has been seen that the Search Engines keep track of all the searches that the user formulates. The paper discussed the possibility of invading privacy by the well-advanced Search Engines and possible leakage of personal information by these web search services. It is a custom social search engines developed by Eurekster Inc, New Zealand and was launched to the public on January 21, 2004. Swicki can be developed by any one on any topic, with every search, vote and click it will generate power in retrieving more relevant results and turns into a valuable asset. The article discussed an overview, benefit of swicki and technique for creating it.
