    Himachal Pradesh: Research Oriented State as Visualized in SCOPUS

    The paper presents a scenario in research activity undertaken by HP based authors solely or in collaboration with other authors at academic and research Institutes of Himachal Pradesh as visualized in SCOPUS. The data retrieved from SCOPUS covers the period 1952-beginning of Jan. 2015. Various parameters like decade wise growth of publications, research productivity of top 10 authors, highly researched subject areas, the most cited papers, citation overview of the extremely preferred journals have been taken into account. This paper finds out the top 4 districts of Himachal Pradesh whose authors have come out with maximum research output.The study reveals that the research gained momentum after 1970 with the establishment of HP University. Out of top 10 authors 7 belong to Himachal Pradesh University. Authors of Himachal Pradesh have worked more in collaboration with the authors of other Indian states than with other International authors. Pure and applied sciences have remained the highly focussed areas of research as compared to Social sciences. Agriculture has emerged as the most researched subject area.

    Knowledge Management in Libraries: Gaining Competitive Advantage Through E Learning

    Welcome to the 21st century and the knowledge society. The business landscape is changing rapidly. The competitive environment is no longer linear or predictable. Survival and success depend entirely on the organization’s ability to adjust to the dynamics of business environment. Changes in Information Technology (IT) have generated gaps in access and control of information and knowledge. Even when these gaps are bridged, several fundamentals challenges remain. How do we apply KM for value-added and competitive advantage? How do we convert data into information and knowledge? How do we use technology to convert challenges into opportunities? Knowledge management is the solution for realigning the institution’s technical capabilities to create the knowledge that drives the institution forward. This paper provides a conceptual view of knowledge management, its types and the transformation from data to information and to knowledge-Elucidates the role of knowledge management in libraries-discusses how the emergence of e learning has enabled knowledge management practices to be measured and evaluated in accordance with learning objectives.

    Knowledge-Driven Era and The Dawn of Knowledge Portal Technologes

    Knowledge has been the staple source of competitive advantage for many organizations for hundreds of years. During the 1990s, the onset of Internet and Information Superhighway, allowed KM to take off. It provided more opportunities for knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer than there had been in the past. This paper discusses the paradigm shift from agricultural to industrial economy and then to new Knowledge Economy. Provides a conceptual view of Knowledge management and its key drivers- highlights the evolution and the functions of portals- also elucidates different tools and technologies which act as platform to bring people together to share knowledge in the form of expertise, competencies, skills irrespective of time and space constraints. Concludes that the future is for Knowledge Portals that provide flexible knowledge environment for large number of users.
