Item Application of Google Drive in Academic Library: A Practical Approach(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Mazumdar, Nirmal RanjanApplication of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Library and Information Centre (LIC) brings significant changes in its systems and services. The LIC always tries to apply various ICT tools to make the systems and services more user-friendly. Cloud computing is the recent one in this row. This paper shows how the Google’s cloud based service, i.e., Google Drive can be used in a college library. In college library, for purchasing the library books, the faculty members usually submit their requisite list of books in plain paper or in a prescribed form containing different columns for bibliographic information and number of copies required. In this process, a librarian faces different obstacles. Google Drive is one of the to solutions to overcome from this issue. This study is completely based on a practical approach followed in Pub Kamrup College Library and it is in initial stage/trial stage.Item Digital Preservation of Rare Manuscripts in Assam(INFLIBNET Centre, 2009-02-25) Mazumdar, Nirmal RanjanInformation technology has facilitated preservation of the documents, i.e. digital preservation. Manuscripts are the primary sources of historic information. With the deterioration of the Law of Nature, manuscripts are also deteriorating along with the time. Digital preservation of manuscripts restores it from loss, theft and decay. This paper highlights some of the initiatives taken in Assam for the digital preservation of manuscripts.Item Digitization of Manuscript in the Perspective of Sustainability Development Goal: A Study of College Libraries of Kamrup & Kamrup (M) District in Assam(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Das, Nabajyoti; Mazumdar, Nirmal Ranjan; Kalita, KishorePurpose: As digitization is a measure for sustainability of manuscript collection, this study aims to identify whether the manuscript collection available in college libraries of Kamrup and Kamrup (M) are digitized or not and thereby open the door to contribute towards the achievement of the concerned sustainable development goals of the UN. Design and Methodology: For this study, the libraries of provincialised colleges situated in Kamrup and Kamrup (M) districts are surveyed using an online questionnaire. A purposive sampling method is used for selecting the sample. The collected relevant data are tabulated and analyzed accordingly. Findings: Out of 47 only 9 college libraries have manuscript collections. The research reveals that the college libraries have a total of 128 manuscripts out of which 58 i.e. 45.31% are Sanchipat manuscripts and 70 i.e. 54.69% are paper manuscripts. Out of 9 college libraries 5 libraries have digitized their manuscripts and only 3 libraries have given access to the digitized manuscript through their digital library. However, the College libraries are to initiate significant steps towards digitization of manuscripts and to provide their access to the world community to contribute towards achievement of sustainable development goals for preservation and conservation of Cultural and intellectual heritage of the state. Value: Though the study is confined to a specific geographical area, it may reflect significance of digitization of manuscript for achievement of specified SDGs. Only inclusion of the ICT application in the syllabus cannot help them to encounter with challenges in the working environment in the library and information centres. Here two approaches i.e. interdisciplinary and inter-institutional have been put forwarded which can be considered to develop the skills of the LIS professionals. Also the efforts of some the organizations and institutes related to LIS in India are highlighted.Item Quality Assurance in Library and Information Science Education in India: Issues and Challenges(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Deka, Dipen; Mazumdar, Nirmal Ranjan; Singh, Sanjay KumarThe objective of this study is to look into the process of quality assurance of Library and Information Science (LIS) Education in India. Review of literature is done on the library and information science education globally to collect information on LIS education and its quality assurance. The study finds that apart from of few agencies like ALA in USA and CILIP in UK there is no agency or body at national and international level for quality assurance of LIS education. The study is limited to quality assurance of LIS education in India only. This paper enlightens about the quality assurance in LIS education in India. The main issues of quality assurance and the challenges are highlighted in this paper.Item Skills for Library and Information Professionals Working in Borderless library(INFLIBNET Centre, 2007-12-07) Mazumdar, Nirmal RanjanBorderless library is a technologically empowered web-based library, which provides services to its user throughout computer networks. As the changes occurred in library environment, the library and information science professionals should be acquaintance with different skills. This paper tries to reflect some skills required for the library and information professionals working at IT environment and highlights on different programmes to enhance these skills among the professionals.
