Item Assessment of Infrastructure and Services in Maulana Azad Library, Aligarh Muslim University: Issues and Scope for Improvement(INFLIBNET Centre, 2017-08) Munshi, Shamim Aktar; Mehtab Alam, Ansari; Mohd, ShikohLibraries of today are different from those of the past. There are many differences between the libraries which we had in the ancient, medieval periods and the libraries of modern time. It is difficult to survive of the libraries in case they are not given emphasis on building library collection as well as improving infrastructural facilities. Maulana Azad Library is a central library of Aligarh Muslim University which is famous all over the world primarily due to its collection. In the present paper, an assessment has been made about infrastructural facilities available in Maulana Azad Library. This study also highlights the different services provided by the library. Based on survey, the study reports how users rate different facilities and services. It also covers suggestions made by users with respect to improvement in the services/facilities. Data for this study has been collected using well-structured questionnaire. A total number of 342 questionnaires distributed randomly among the users for this purpose. The findings indicate that many library users are satisfied with the library services and infrastructural facilities provided by library, nonetheless still there are some services and facilities needs an improvement. It was found that especially postgraduate and undergraduate students are lack of aware about some of the services, therefore, it is necessary to organize user awareness programmes.Item Investigating the Impact of Generative AI Tools on Research: A Case Study(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Munshi, Shamim Aktar; Koner, Souvik; Biswas, Ajay; Ghosh, SuvojitThe purpose of this study is to investigate perceptions and experiences regarding the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in scholarly research at Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University, West Bengal. In addition, the study seeks to propose a model for librarians to enhance researchers' awareness of the optimal use of AI tools within library settings. Data for the study were collected through an online questionnaire (Google form) administered to faculty members and research scholars at the university campus. The study revealed that 100% of the respondents prefer to utilize various AI tools in their research, citing their prompt assistance in research endeavours. A substantial number of respondents demonstrated a high level of awareness and positive attitudes toward integrating AI tools in research. However, they acknowledged ethical considerations regarding the utilization of AI tools as a critical issue in the research domain.Item Librarians as Catalysts for Integrating AI Tools in Scholarly Research: A Proposed Model(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Barsha, Sayantoni; Das, Anamika; Munshi, Shamim AktarThe main purpose of this study is to propose a model that outlines the crucial role of librarians in facilitating the integration of Artificial intelligence (AI) tools into scholarly research. A comprehensive review of existing literature on the intersection of librarianship, AI technology, and scholarly research was conducted. The study identified some vital research domains where librarians can provide crucial support to researchers through the integration of AI tools. These areas include aiding in the selection of suitable AI technologies, conducting comprehensive literature searches and mapping, facilitating data analysis and visualization, managing citations and references, promoting research integrity and ethical awareness, and assisting with copyediting tasks. Additionally, the study emphasizes the notable challenges confronted by librarians in developing countries in the integration of AI tools in library services. However, the proposed model carries significant implications for both librarians and researchers, providing a strategic framework to optimize the benefits of AI in research activities.Item Plagiarism, a Critical Issue in Academic Research Integrity: Attitudes of Research Scholars(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Faizan, Mohd; Munshi, Shamim AktarThe purpose of this study is to investigate the awareness and attitude towards plagiarism of research scholars at the Aligarh Muslim University, India. The researchers have applied a quantitative study based on the survey method along with the questionnaire as a tool for survey instrument to achieve the research objectives. The researchers have personally distributed the questionnaires to the fulltime Ph.D. scholars in the Faculty of Social Science. The collected data analysed by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS), version 20, to know the frequencies, percentages and tabulations. The results of the study showed that the majority of research scholars are aware of plagiarism and they believed that it is wrong and immoral. The research scholars believed that the higher score, higher the chance getting a job at the university level, and because of this most of the research scholars produced their publications without keeping the research ethics and academic honesty in their minds and this lead to breaking academic integrity and cause of Plagiarism. However, it is suggested to the university authority to organize such workshops and orientation programs regarding plagiarism, so that scholars or neo-scholars will understand that it is a violation in academic integrity.Item Social Science Cyber Library, An Attempt Towards E- Learning at Aligarh Muslim University(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Zehra, Ferheen; Munshi, Shamim AktarThe learning and teaching process has travelled far enough from the prehistoric times to reach the present information communication technology driven era. ICT, Internet, WWW all have contributed to this change, making society more information dependent thus giving rise to a knowledge society. E-learning as we know it today can be traced back to networked learning. E-learning implies learning and teaching by using ICT as a communications and delivery tool between individuals or groups. The digital library initiatives all over the world had set up a platform for e learning in the form of e-books, e-journals, subject gateways and the like. The ease of using all these formats and their subsequent approval by the user community is an indication that impact of e learning has been felt and that too positively. This paper is an effort to draw attention to the unique effort by the Faculty of Social Sciences at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh of setting up a Social Science Cyber Library encompassing all open access resources available in different formats ranging from e journals to video lectures on themes relating to social sciences at one place facilitating their visibility, use thus saving the time of the reader as emphasized by Ranganathan's laws of Library science. The present paper discusses the role the social science cyber library can play among the e learning generation. The paper draws on information available through google and the cyber library website regarding the change in the behaviour of teachers, students, libraries and library professionals transformation in education system especially the Higher Education Sector and analysing the impact this initiative can impose on the social scientist's community not only at AMU or in India but all around the globe.
