Item Institutional Repositories: The Prospects and Challenges in Indian Digital Library Environment(INFLIBNET Centre, 2012-03-03) Nahak, Brundaban; Nahak, SanjuktaThe information evolution leads to the flood of publication. User needs are also rapidly growing. They have to read more journals, require more information but the prices have increased faster than library budget. So to cope up the situation and meet the user requirement the institutional repositories has been emerged. In the age of ICT, the concept of institutional repository has arisen, which have become very essential mode of accessing and sharing the information. Information is always considered the root cause for the development of any society/community. Intuitional Repositories are digital collections of the outputs created within a university or research institution. This paper discussed about growth of IR in India and also global scenario of IRs. This paper is a consideration of some of the important aspects related with IRs. It also explores the trends at global and national level of IR. The present paper also discusses about some important software, which is being used by IR of various organizations world wide and described objective, definitions, content, use, features, design, advantages, key components, issues and challenges, etc. IR consists of formally organized and managed collections of digital content generated by the faculty, staff and students of an institution. IR enhance the visibility of the research outputs locally produced. The paper concludes with the remarks that the LIS professionals need to have more active and responsible for generation and maintenance of IR systems efficiently and effectively. Librarian is the focal point, the IR system as he plays a role of designer as well as service provider.Item Planning, Designing and Developing of Digital Libraries and Digital Preservation(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Nahak, Brundaban; Patra, Partha SarathiDigital libraries represent the meeting point of many disciplines and fields, including data management, information systems, information retrieval, library sciences, document management, the web, image processing, artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction. Due to these technological invasions majority of libraries are getting converted into digital libraries which provide suitable help to fulfill their users’ basic objectives of providing relevant information. This is so because globalization of information is taking place and territorial boundaries are becoming meaningless due to developments in information and communication technology (ICT) and traditional constraints of time and space are disappearing. Digital library is the electronic library in which the access, storage and dissemination of information is in the digitalized form. It is an attempt to touch base with all the areas relating to use of digital library and digital preservation in libraries in simple language. This paper briefly describes the planning, designing, development, guidelines for designing, characteristics, achieves, services, resources, maintenance, responsibility, role of librarian, strategies, definition, need, purpose , function, digitization in libraries, Standards, policy, Softwares available, LSDI, advantages, disadvantages, etc.Item The Role of Smart Library and Smart Librarian for E- Library Services(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Nahak, Brundaban; Padhi, SatyajitThe evolution of libraries happens through three stages –modernization, automation and digitization. A smart library (SL) is an information centre with networks of many libraries and their services in a larger informational ecosystem around the globe. Smartness means that the development of new library e-tools and services are measured on the assessment of real resources and users. Smart is more user-friendly than intelligent. As every new paradigm, smartness bears risks. In today’s era, a library equipped with ‘smart library’ technology is to be allowed freely open to library readers with no library staff. Technology gives facilities for controlling and monitoring of library buildings, including automatic doors, lighting, auto-services pavilions, and any computers. It gives permission to use resources 24X7 hours so that the reader s can use the library at times that that are convenient for them. The ‘smart library’ requires ‘smart librarians which gives service to user centric and user friendly. The role of librarians and libraries is changing in the present era due to the changing demands of its users. The role of SL requires three things i.e. Smart users, SL staff and SL services. Users are excepting more from the libraries especially from the academic libraries not only for their intellectual growth but also for their day today informative demand which will certainly grow day by day. The author describes briefly details on smart library, smart service, smart readers, cloud service developing ‘smart librarians, service visibility, service orientation of smart academic library, advocacy, features, vision of SLs, planning for impact, smart governance, smart library place, smart management, smart library staff, green library building, smart librarians and their e-service in digital era. This paper is purely theory based paper which is described by author pinpointed regarding smart library.
