Item Best Practices with NAAC in College Libraries of Nalbari District, Assam(INFLIBNET Centre, 2012-03-03) Ahmed, Merina; Pal, BirenderThe twenty first century creates a new environment for education in general and higher education in particular. The progress of any country is strongly linked with the quality of education. However, with mushrooming of educational institutions in all parts of the country and several types of economic activities dominating the landscape, the issue of quality has now assumed a critical dimension. College libraries play an indispensable role in the dissemination of information of knowledge,they should be in a position to provide effective teaching learning information support to its user’s communities. Libraries are one of the important components of the assessment through which an impact on the accreditation of the institute is related. To meet the end user’s demands effectively, they need to identify and adopt good practices. NAAC has decided to identify the set of best practices in Library and Information Services, with the help of a few case presentations from few selected libraries of the accredited Universities and Colleges. This paper shows a clear picture about the developments of college libraries of Nalbari district(Assam) after NAAC’s evaluation. It gives the status of best practices followed by the surveyed libraries.Item Changing Dimension of KKHL With INFLIBNET in the Participatory ERA(INFLIBNET Centre, 2012-03-03) Pal, Birender; Singh, S K; Ahmed, MerinaLibraries and Knowledge are the two faces of a same coin. The University libraries act as an important medium of generating knowledge between the academic communities. The traditional process of organizing, retrieving and dissemination of information is out of fashion and time consuming. INFLIBNET through the application of IT is making great efforts to build up their information infrastructure in order to provide a fast and efficient information highway to help their users in sharing and utilizing the information all over the world. This paper deals about the different developments activities of Krishna Kanta Handiqui library of Gauhati University under INFLIBNET which includes digital collection development, HRD development, status of different databases created by KKHL. The article also discuss about the records contributed by KKHL in the Union Catalogue of Indian Universities and digitization aspects of Thesis and Dissertation collections.Item From Hidden Stacks to Open Web with INFLIBNET: A Torchbearer for N.E. Indian Universities(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2016-11) Pal, BirenderINFLIBNET centre since its establishment carried out a number of programmes for the university libraries of India and NE Indian universities are also no exception to it. University libraries of N.E India are professionally networked with INFLIBNET through different programmes like automation and networking, UGC Infonet internet connectivity, Consortium of e-resources, union catalogue, resource sharing through DDS, Shodhganga programme, HRD, etc. The paper tries to find out the different level of facilities and opportunities that are availed by the university libraries of NE India. It also reflects the status of the works of different NE Indian universities using INFLIBNET facilities. The paper tried to access the contribution of the Universities to union catalogue of INFLIBNET. It also tries to assess the work of ILL document delivery centres of NE India. The paper puts forward certain suggestion at the end.Item Indian Academic Research Data Repository (IARDR) With INFLIBNET: A Futuristic Plan(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Pal, Birender; Singh, Sanjay KumarData and Information are an integral component resulting to form the knowledge. In terms of research information management (e-resource), the Institutional Repository (IR) has played an immense role. Research data is another important asset of research which needs to be properly managed. The situations of research data management in European, American and Australian continents is very much advanced and are having a well research data management platform for their researcher. But when we study the research data management aspect basically in Indian context, then the situation is quite different than the other countries of the world. In Indian universities, a lot of research data has been collected by the researcher which is unutilized after the completion of research. This paper explores that what is the present status of research data management policy in Indian context. It also highlights on how India can have the research data management policy in the field of academics. It further reflects the proposed policy on how INFLIBNET centre can act as a national platform or nodal centre to build the anticipated IARDR. The paper at the end shows the merit and limitation of the proposed IARDR and the role of libraries.Item Measuring the Publication Productivity of N.E-Indian Universities Using Scopus: A Bibliometric Analysis(INFLIBNET Centre, 2014-09-25) Pal, Birender; Ahmed, MerinaUniversities of N.E- India are having a great importance in higher education sector for the region. Scholars from these universities published a numbers of intellectual works in different publication sources. SCOPUS is an indexing and abstracting database which facilitates for accessing the high quality published materials. The database is having a unique method of searching known as “affiliation search” strategy and the data for the institution publications are collected from it . The paper aims at investigating the different types of published materials by the Universities of N.E- India like articles, conference papers, review, erratum etc. The paper also identifies the peak period in which the growth of publication is maximum. Lastly, an attempt has been made to calculate the Annual Growth rate(AGR) and Average Annual Growth rate(AAGR) of the published documents during the last 20 years.Item Research Data Repositories in Perspective of Climate Change: India to lead The World in Big Data Analytics with G-20 Summit(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2023-11-17) Pal, Birender; Singh, Sanjay Kumar; Deka, Prasanta KumarBackground:Climate change is one of the major environmental challenges that have been faced by every nation. Data is the key factor for any nation for its progress. Different data repositories are maintain by different disciplines, organizations or nations. Technology is a boon for dealing with different global problems. Data science if merge with technology can bring a major development in our society. The G20 in its 2023 vision has clearly mentioned about “One Earth One Family One Future” which further expressed its concern towards the global problem related to climate change faced by the nations. The G-20 presidency of India may bring a common platform for countries to store and exchange their data with one policy and technology. Objectives:The study targets to identify different data repositories available in the world on the domain of climate change. The study also targets the data repositories of India. The study refers to identify the strength of G-20 countries on climate change domain data repositories with a proposal for creating a Unified global data repository on the domain. Methods:The method for the study is based on the available data repositories under the Registry of Research data repositories related to climate change. The climate change repositories were identified by following four areas of universe of knowledge. Results:The study found that there are 217 repositories of the 22 nations or unions on climate change domain. Further, the study also found that there are 62 data repositories identified which are created after the cooperation among nations or union. India individually is found to have 11 numbers of data repositories on the domain. Implications:The findings of the study can be applied for mitigating the global challenge faced by the world in terms of climate change by implementing the domain of data science. The study may lead India to serve as a Global leader in mitigating the global problem of climate change through its G-20 Presidency.Item Uses of MoE-GoI Open Educational Platforms by the College Teachers of Assam: A Study Focusing on the Role of Library(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2022-11) Pal, Birender; Singh, Sanjay KumarToday, the use of technology in education is the need of the hour for any higher educational institution. NEP-2020 has very clearly mentioned the roadmap for the adoption of technology in education. It has emphasized the use of open online learning platforms along with the different e-contents, information repositories, etc platforms. The OER developed under the MOE-GOI has its own credibility in terms of courses available across the higher educational institutions of our country. Various platforms like SWAYAM, NDLI, e-PG Pathshala, CEC-OER, virtual labs, etc are developed under the guidance of MOE-GOI. Even these platforms served as an alternative during the pandemic situations. Till the study was submitted, 244 numbers of colleges have already registered in N-LIST out of which 185 colleges were the present beneficiary. College libraries are providing maximum assistance to library users in using the N-LIST services. So, whether a similar approach is found to be practiced by the college libraries in the case of OER. Further whether the faculty members are using all the different open online education platforms of MOE-GOI. What challenges are faced by the college teachers of Assam in utilizing the OER? So, this paper basically deals with all these three questions mentioned above.
