Item Altmetrics: Measuring the Broader Impact of Scientific Research(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2015-07-01) Pradhan, PallabMeasuring the impact of scientific research of individuals and institutions is a necessity and a challenging task for institutions, funding agencies and the government so as to draw a well-informed policy framework and draw pathways for future directions. While peer-review and citation-based bibliometrics indicators have become global means of measuring research output and are playing a critical role in this process. However, citations have been criticized for limiting their scope within academic and neglecting the broader societal impact of research. The Article-level-metrics (ALM) or altmetrics has emerged as an alternative metrics (alternative to bibliometrics) to fill-in the gap and setting a new trend in recent times for measuring the impact of scientific publications and their social outreach on web. Altmetrics is the new metrics for measuring research impact based on the data penetration on the web and social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Mendeley and CiteULike, etc. This paper provides an overview on altmetrics, its definitions, its data sources and available tools, merits and demerits, difference between altmetrics and bibliometrics, etc. Lastly, the article outlines possibilities of implementing altmetrics in publications-based services offered by the INFLIBNET Centre.Item Analysis of the Citation Patterns, Keywords Clustering and Collaboration Networks in Presented Papers of PLANNER Conventions(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2016-11) Pradhan, Pallab; Solanki, Hitesh; Patel, SwapnilIn this paper, we present analysis of the papers that were presented in the last nine PLANNER conventions held during the period 2003 to 2014 in North East Indian Universities. The data for this study i.e. number of papers, their bibliographical data along with the keywords were collected from “IR@INFLIBNET”repository as well as from the “Convention’s Proceedings” and the citation data was collected from “Google Scholar”. A total of 445 full papers were selected for this study excluding the abstract papers in which 172 papers have received a total of 481 citations with an average of 1.08 per paper and the remaining 273 papers had no citation. Further, this paper demonstrates yearwise citation patterns, most prominent topics presented, key-word clustering, authorship and collaboration networks of authors from different states from the presented papers in conventions.Item Authorship Pattern and Degree of Collaboration in Indian Chemistry Literature(INFLIBNET Centre, 2011-03-02) Pradhan, Pallab; Panda, Saroj; Chandrakar, RajeshThe study presents the trends in authorship pattern and author’s collaborative research in Indian chemistry literature with a sample of 53,977 articles downloaded from SCI-Expanded database in Web of Science during the period 2000-2009. The average number of authors per article is 3.55 %. In the study the degree of collaboration (C) during the overall 10 years (2000-2009) is 0.03, but the year wise degree of collaboration is almost same in all the years of mean value 0.97. In the 10 years of period, the multi authorship articles are higher and predominant on single authorship. The study found that the researchers in chemistry are keen towards teamresearch or group research rather than solo research.Item Data Repositories in India with Specific Reference to "ICSSR Data Service: Indian Social Science Data Repository"(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2016-07-01) Pradhan, PallabThe raw research data / datasets used in the process of research analysis has immense inheritance value as like the research results itself. So, it is very evident and becoming very important to collect, store and manage such data / datasets properly for further reuse. In this regard, data repositories are becoming the trend setters in research data management and playing a great role for facilitating open access to data & promoting data sharing. Currently, hundreds of data repositories are available on the web covering a wide range of disciplines from around the world; and India is not an exception to it. The ICSSR Data Service has been initiated by ICSSR, New Delhi with aim to promote data sharing at a national level and to provide open access to social science research data / datasets hugely generated by various social science research institutes in the country. This article elaborates the current status of data repositories in the country, specifically the "ICSSR Data Service: Indian Social Science Data Repository". Further, it enumerates in details about ICSSR Data Service i.e. its objectives, development, current status, its features & functionalities, datasets, etc. Also, it explores the in-built online "ICSSR Data Analytics" and visualization tool developed using "R" language.Item Data Repositories in India with Specific Reference to ICSSR Data Service Indian Social Science Data Repository(INFLIBNET Centre, 2016-06) Pradhan, PallabThe raw research data / datasets used in the process of research analysis has immense inheritance value as like the research results itself. Are those PhD research works used or impacting scholarly communication and academic research in general, and if so, how? To investigate, Elsevier’s Scopus database was searched through its references search feature using search terms/links, i.e., shodhganga, shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in, sg.inflibnet.ac.in, retrievedfromshodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in, and baadalsg.inflibnet.ac.in. It was pre-convinced by the researchers that the references list of any citing documents in which the searched terms/links will appear must have referred to or cited Shodhganga or any of its theses available. A total of 2042 references with the terms mentioned above/links were extracted for further analysis from a total of 1764 citing documents that were retrieved from Scopus. However, the analysis and findings of the study are based on the details of only 1764 handles/theses after removing duplicates, handles those details were either not found or withdrawn from Shodhganga. This article attempts to analyse the impact of India's national ETD repository, Shodhganga, and its theses through reference analysis, finding the top theses. These top universities are cited, and so on.Item Scholarly Research Articles Published from Anna University, Tamil Nadu during 2011-2016: An Altmetrics Evaluation(INFLIBNET Centre, 2017-08) Pradhan, PallabThis paper presents an altmetrics evaluation of scholarly publications of Anna University published during 2011-2016, and indexed in Web of Science (WoS) database. A total of 5056 publications, i.e. only articles with a total of 25850 citations was collected. The other types of published materials such as reviews, book chapters, editorial materials, and proceedings papers have not been considered for this study. Among those 5056 publications, only 4306 (85.17%) publications which were found to have DOI were considered for this study. Webometric Analyst 2.0 software was used to retrieve the altmetrics data from Altmetric.com for those 4306 articles by fetching queries of 4306 DOIs. It was found that only 361 publications were having altmetrics data as per the data retrieved from Altmetric.com which includes online readership / posts / attentions / mentions, etc. Further, this paper presents the year-wise growth of publications and citations, presence of altmetrics data by their sources, altmetrics mentions across WoS - Broad Subject categories, most prominent publications as per their altmetrics score, and finally reveals the Twitter demographics and geographic (country) of tweets / mentions for these publications from Anna University.Item Science Mapping and Visualization Tools used in Bibliometric & Scientometric Studies: An Overview(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2017-01-01) Pradhan, PallabScience mapping and visualization techniques are used for data analysis in bibliometric and scientometric studies. Science mapping and visualization helps to explore the scientific knowledge, make it livelier by visualizing and showcasing the impact of research by displaying the structural relationship and dynamics of scientific research domains. Various software tools have been developed incorporating different science mapping and visualization techniques. This article briefly presents features and functions of such software tools used for data analysis in bibliometric and scientometric studies.
