Item Application of Smart Card Technology in The University of Mumbai Library to Monitor User Behaviour, Library Traffic, Library Planning, Physical Security and Managing E-purse for Cashless Transactions(INFLIBNET Centre, 2012-03-03) Raja, Nalini AThis paper is aimed at conducting pilot study for implementation of Smart Card Technology for access control to safeguard both physical and intellectual property; and cashless transaction at photocopying centre. The reports are compiled to monitor user behaviour, library traffic and actual use of library resources. The reports are reviewed for effective and efficient collection development, weeding out and library planning policies. SOUL 2.0 software is used for computerizing the library in-house activities. Smart card technology is integrated with SOUL 2.0 software for assigning the user rights as per their credentials for providing various services.Item Digitizing Library Card Catalogue Retrospectively on Exploring Scanning and OCR Technique at University of Mumbai – Some Lessons.(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Raja, Nalini ARetrospective conversion though the old and well-studied subject requires research in finding out an automated data capturing method. In this paper an attempted has beenmade to explore the digitization technique of scanning and converting the title and verso of the title page into optically recognized character for capturing bibliographic details of a document. The result of the digitization exercise done in this regard clearly indicate the inherent limitations and thereby caution the library professionals to explore this technique with alternative approaches till either change and consistency in publication style is appealing to the publishers or changes in OCR software takes place. The same technique however had been explored for specific subject search andwas successful.Item Network and Security Implementation at Jawaharlal Nehru Library, University of Mumbai(INFLIBNET Centre, 2010-02-18) Raja, Nalini AThis paper discusses the Library as a nervous centre of the University providing right information – global or local - at the right time to the entire academic community. The fiber optic and Cat 6 cable forms a Network connecting various data servers of the library locally and globally. This very feature invites to implement security measures to be employed logically using Active Directory Server Settings and Web OPAC server settings to protect the data to be lost accidentally or purposefully.
