Item Application Of Web 2.0 In Library And Information Science: With Special Reference to RSS(INFLIBNET Centre, 2008-11-06) Saha, Nimai Chand; De, Suman; Paul, NirmalenduThe paper contains the substantial implication of the changing web as “web 2.0” for libraries and recognizes that while these implications keep very close to the history and mission of libraries. It describes the theory and definition to the practices of librarianship, specially addressing how RSS feed (popular tool of Web 2.0 technologies) might make changes in libraries provide access to their collection and user support for accessing the same. RSS aggregator applications installed in a library system, and coupled with the social network of the library, will enable users to have a single, customized personal library page that syndicates all the library content of interest to them and their research, elimination of irrelevant information. It also highlights the Download and installation of RSS reader software along with the activation process. Information collections are no longer geographically bound. Most of the libraries have had some degree of success with web based resources and electronic journals. In these instances e-resource will integrate easily into the infrastructure. There is growing awareness and use of e-resource by academics and students. In this digital age, everyone wants contents and to be successful information service providers. So, Information Center and Libraries needs to develop services in such a way so that the end users may manipulate the content, as per their requirements. Therefore, in the present scenario, IR’s are become an indispensable component for information and knowledge sharing in the scholar world. IR provides a method for capturing and maintaining today’s electronic detritus so that tomorrow’s scholars can understand the thinking behind the published record. Again, for the standard IRs each and every institution should have to equip its library professionals so that they can be able to cope up with the ever-growing changes in this part. In view of the above, this paper tries to explore the contents of IRs and skill requirement for the implantations of the successful Institutional Repository. The paper also discusses the benefits, standard, sustainability & funding, legal considerations to some extents. In addition with this the paper also tries to present the Indian current scenario of the IR. Authors have also discussed about the software’s that are easily available to create and maintain in institutional repositories i.e. Open Source Software and Commercial Digital Repository Software. In view of this the paper tries to highlight the present position of Visva-Bharati University Library, UGC-Infonet E-journals consortium approach on the one side and on the other side the thinking and satisfaction of the science scholars about the using ejournals to their respective research area. In this direction, this paper made an attempt to accentuate human resource development for information technology application in libraries from the training and development point of view. The paper covers the various aspects of HRD in Library services and its role in the present information society.
