During the last century a lot of changes have taken place in the field of library cooperation starting with the production of union catalogues to shared integrated library systems. Library consortium is a terminology evolved to encompass all sorts of cooperative activities by modern libraries. Subscription of electronic resources is not the only function of a library consortium; it can provide many valuable and indispensable services to the member of libraries. A properly planned library consortium with good leadership can go a long way in serving the libraries by proving value added services. Many factors are responsible for consortia formation and many a times consortia are formed by the libraries by looking only on its benefits. The paper highlights the emerging areas of resource sharing among libraries through library consortia and discusses the issues and challenges faced by the library professionals of LICs of higher education in Assam in the digital era. It also highlights the application of ICT for digital library, the role of NAAC, NKC, and at the end a few suggestions are given for the betterment of college library services in Assam. In terms of research information management (e-resource), the Institutional Repository (IR) has played an immense role. Research data is another important asset of research which needs to be properly managed. The situations of research data management in European, American and Australian continents is very much advanced and are having a well research data management platform for their researcher. But when we study the research data management aspect basically in Indian context, then the situation is quite different than the other countries of the world. In Indian universities, a lot of research data has been collected by the researcher which is unutilized after the completion of research. This paper explores that what is the present status of research data management policy in Indian context. It also highlights on how India can have the research data management policy in the field of academics. It further reflects the proposed policy on how INFLIBNET centre can act as a national platform or nodal centre to build the anticipated IARDR. Out of the 16 automated libraries, 15 libraries are using SOUL2.0 while one library is using KOHA. Open Source Software or OSS has revolutionised the modus operandi of library software for library automation. OSS is quickly becoming a solution, owing to the freedom to copy, modify and distribute it and freedom from contracts as well as for greater opportunities for interoperability with other application. The paper mainly discusses about different OSS. It is a relatively new idea for library automation. People often advocate OSS because it is free. Some of the selected OSS is highlighted. It covers about digital collections, its types, beneficiary points regarding the digital collections, and the criteria for the growth of digital collection. It also highlights how the digital collection in NEIST Library is becoming a solution in providing latest information in science and technology through e-journal of CSIR Consortium. Review of literature is done on the library and information science education globally to collect information on LIS education and its quality assurance. The study finds that apart from of few agencies like ALA in USA and CILIP in UK there is no agency or body at national and international level for quality assurance of LIS education. The study is limited to quality assurance of LIS education in India only. This paper enlightens about the quality assurance in LIS education in India. The main issues of quality assurance and the challenges are highlighted in this paper.Item Research Data Repositories in Perspective of Climate Change: India to lead The World in Big Data Analytics with G-20 Summit(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2023-11-17) Pal, Birender; Singh, Sanjay Kumar; Deka, Prasanta KumarBackground:Climate change is one of the major environmental challenges that have been faced by every nation. Data is the key factor for any nation for its progress. Different data repositories are maintain by different disciplines, organizations or nations. Technology is a boon for dealing with different global problems. Data science if merge with technology can bring a major development in our society. The G20 in its 2023 vision has clearly mentioned about “One Earth One Family One Future” which further expressed its concern towards the global problem related to climate change faced by the nations. The G-20 presidency of India may bring a common platform for countries to store and exchange their data with one policy and technology. Objectives:The study targets to identify different data repositories available in the world on the domain of climate change. The study also targets the data repositories of India. The study refers to identify the strength of G-20 countries on climate change domain data repositories with a proposal for creating a Unified global data repository on the domain. Methods:The method for the study is based on the available data repositories under the Registry of Research data repositories related to climate change. The climate change repositories were identified by following four areas of universe of knowledge. Results:The study found that there are 217 repositories of the 22 nations or unions on climate change domain. Further, the study also found that there are 62 data repositories identified which are created after the cooperation among nations or union. India individually is found to have 11 numbers of data repositories on the domain. Implications:The findings of the study can be applied for mitigating the global challenge faced by the world in terms of climate change by implementing the domain of data science. The study may lead India to serve as a Global leader in mitigating the global problem of climate change through its G-20 Presidency.Item RSS 2.0: Experience with Implementation in a Closed Intranet(INFLIBNET Center, 2009-02-25) Singh, Manoj; Kumar, Vijai; Balan, Ajith; Gupta, Rajiv; Singh, Sanjay Kumar; Kanal, Leena AWeb 2.0 technologies provide opportunities in various ways to add value to e-services to the world. This term Web 2.0 is widely used to cover a lot of different things especially online on the Internet. These push technologies open new challenges for Library applications too. These powerful e-services reflecting the 2.0 movement integrate dissimilar data to make it more focused for user needs, integrate data within specific user tasks, facilitate collaboration and team use of information, and allow creation of new information and value by users online. However, RSS is one of the easiest and most seamless ways to connect and be informed. RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) is basically a format to deliver updated Web content. This paper describes the implementation of RSS 2.0 feed into an online information Gateway in a local Intranet environment thoroughly. Implementation of RSS feed provides news and information merely not static but also with a click. This paper highlights the features and technologies being used for implementation in a closed intranet environment.Item Uses of MoE-GoI Open Educational Platforms by the College Teachers of Assam: A Study Focusing on the Role of Library(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2022-11) Pal, Birender; Singh, Sanjay KumarToday, the use of technology in education is the need of the hour for any higher educational institution. NEP-2020 has very clearly mentioned the roadmap for the adoption of technology in education. It has emphasized the use of open online learning platforms along with the different e-contents, information repositories, etc platforms. The OER developed under the MOE-GOI has its own credibility in terms of courses available across the higher educational institutions of our country. Various platforms like SWAYAM, NDLI, e-PG Pathshala, CEC-OER, virtual labs, etc are developed under the guidance of MOE-GOI. Even these platforms served as an alternative during the pandemic situations. Till the study was submitted, 244 numbers of colleges have already registered in N-LIST out of which 185 colleges were the present beneficiary. College libraries are providing maximum assistance to library users in using the N-LIST services. So, whether a similar approach is found to be practiced by the college libraries in the case of OER. Further whether the faculty members are using all the different open online education platforms of MOE-GOI. What challenges are faced by the college teachers of Assam in utilizing the OER?
