Item Open Access Initiatives of the National Archives of Bangladesh (NAB)(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2016-11) Akter, Rowshon; Begum, BilkisThe National Archives of Bangladesh (NAB) evolved to ensure official custody and physical safety of the archival resources mainly government records of the country. With regard torelease their resources on an open access environment, NAB has initiated a digitization programme. Though the initiative is praiseworthy, the facilities are yet inadequate to make the project sustainable. The main focus of this paper is to overview different aspects of NAB’s Open Access programme where it used secondary and primary data. The study identified the shortcomings and put forwarded some recommendations, with special preference to a proposed model of Archives Literacy, which eventually will ensure effective completion of the programme.Item Preservation Of Archives: A Case Study Of Bangladesh National Archives(INFLIBNET Centre, 2008-11-06) Mezbah- ul-Islam, Muhammed; Akter, RowshonNow-a-days, while a mature system of preservation and conservation (PAC) technology and methodology exists world wide to achieve the systematic PAC of world’s cultural heritage, the PAC programs of Bangladesh National Archives (the custodian of Bangladesh Government’s records) have excluded the same provisions to sustain the usable life of it’s resources. In this circumstance, this study seeks to articulate the current PAC status of archives in Bangladesh National Archives, and examine the barriers that have hindered the development of fullfledged PAC program for them. Finally some recommendations have been put forward at the consideration of Bangladesh National Archives so that it can employ the minimum technologies for proper care of its resources and become gradually able to adopt latest technologies for the preservation of manual archives together with the development of a national digital repository of archives.Item Problems and Prospects of College Library Personnel in Bangladesh: an Analytical Study(Inflibnet center, 2008-02-28) Mezbah-ul-Islam, Muhammad; Akter, Rowshon; Sawad bin Shahid, MohammadCollege libraries have significant role in preparation of dynamic future leaders by offering students lucrative services so that users can learn the process of how to enter methods of higher research oriented studies gradually. To do so professional library manpower is a great concern. This study is an attempt to identify the present status of manpower pattern along with providing services of college libraries at capital city Dhaka, Bangladesh and recommended some suggestions regarding the development of library manpower structure. The Study based on primary as well as secondary information and data has been collected adapting questionnaire and interview method. The finding of the study shows that the structure of college library personnel is insufficient to maintain a modern library system.Item Television as a Medium of Information for Rural Development in Bangladesh: A Case Study of Dinajpur District(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2016-11) Akter, Rowshon; Mezbah-ul-Islam, MuhammadThe scarcity of information on communication channels is a great threat for rural development where majority of the people are illiterate thus, do not know how to access information themselves. This study was undertaken to identify the use of television among rural communities of Bangladesh which was conducted in three villages of Dinajpur district, Bangladesh. The questionnaire included information on various information needs of the people under study, different sources of information and peoples’ awareness regarding informative TV shows. The study block included 150 households where more than 50% of the respondents had TV with cable connections. The main source of information as per data analysis was radio (83.33%), cell phone(66%); newspaper (64%) and personal contact (68%) followed by television (62%). Only 19% and 18% dwellers in the study area were aware about different health and agricultural programmes on television respectively. People were found unable to access information through TV due to the inconvenient schedule of the programmes having messages for rural development. So authors recommended that there should be dedicated TV channels to broadcast more and more programmes specifically for rural people at their convenient time.
