    Consortia Initiative for Access to Electronic Publication in Indian Libraries

    Need for resources sharing through consortia has become a necessary for the libraries all over the world. Various factors contribute to this situation. Indian libraries are no exception to this fast changing computive environment. This paper gives a brief account of some of the major consortia initiatives taken during the last couple of years. An effort has been made in this paper to list the issues involved in consortia and also offers few valuable suggestions.

    Library Automation and Open Source Solutions Major Shifts & Practices: A Comparative Case Study of Library Automation Systems in India.

    Open source solutions have made their impact on areas of information knowledge and content management. Library automation system is one of the areas concerned to library community. It is a big challenge for the libraries when they select the automation product for their library, where one has to decide from various options available for the automation product such as commercial, non for profit and open source. The paper describes the observations and makes comparisons on the basis of discussion had with the library community using automation software in India. It also includes the information available in related literature. Features of library automation software, which are mostly in practice by libraries i.e. Libsys and SOUL, are compared with open source system KOHA.

    Use of Web 2.0 Services and E-Learning for Teaching and Learning Purposes among Indian Library and Information Science Department

    The paper covers the status of contents available at Universities/LIS Departments websites related to the teaching and learning purposes. Data collected and analysed in light of current development of e-learning and contents creation funded by NME-ICT. Status indicates Departments/Universities need to be motivated to use and create platform for local content development and management.Some mandatory provisions for teachers and for students needed from UGC (University Grants Commission side to use of e-learning, web 2.0 enabled services that will help content creation and use among the LIS community.
