Item The 3C’s - Convergence of Computers, Communication and Content (Multimedia)(INFLIBNET Centre, 2003-02) Doctor, GayatriWe are moving from a physical world based on atoms to a digital world based on bits. Today new techniques of Information packaging and delivery ensure its availability at the point of demand instantly. This is achieved by exploiting the technologies provided by telecommunications, computer networking and broadcasting media. Some major Value-Added Services like E-mail and the WWW ( World Wide Web ) , Cable TV and Internet Access, Education via Internet E-business, Telebanking , Radio and Television Broadcast on the Internet are a result of this convergence bringing up various Security and Cryptography aspects . Internet telephony reflects the beginning of a new communication era, which is characterized by running real-time applications over Internet/Intranet based computer communication infrastructure. Mobile communications and Internet based computer communications are the two fastest growing areas of communications indicating an enormous potential in the intersection of these two domains. Emerging trends are 4G, the Wireless Broadband Access which gives way to applications like Virtual Navigation, Tele medicine, Tele-geoprocessing applications, Crisis management applications and Virtual Laboratories. The interaction between human and the 3C’s ( Computer + Communication + Content (Multimedia) is becoming a daily staple as we witness powerful computers uniting in a networked environment where wired and wireless communications enjoy broadening bandwidths that permit the transmission of multimedia content.Item Accessing Electronic Information Through Consortia Approach Among Digital Libraries(INFLIBNET Centre, 2003-02) Gowda, M P; Mudhol, Mahesh VThe electronic publishing is the root for consortia approach among libraries. The library is the most important resource for students and young engineers who wish to develop professional expertise quickly. This paper proposes two models viz., simulation model for Library Budget and CASE centered library-forecasting model. Models represent reality and simulation imitates it. Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real world process or systems over time. The paper deals about the purpose of simulation, steps in simulation, CASE tools, and CASE centered library model. Forecasting is employed for the projection of these operations and patterns into the future. The CASE centered forecasting model projected in this paper may be used for the development of an application system to show the potential of shared data base applications or as a foundation for a library management reengineering effort.Item Archiving of Electronic Journals in Physics and Astronomy: Role of Consortia(INFLIBNET Centre, 2003-02) Christina, Birdie; Sreeharsha, B G; Pallavi, T G; Kannur, Mahantesh BElectronic journals unfold their most valuable features when they are inter-linked with other documents, archives and databases. These electronic journals need an archiving system that is based on a global concept. Archiving ensures “continued access indefinitely into the future of records stored in digital electronic form”. Archiving system has to be flexible to adopt the new technological generation. The rapid pace at which technology becomes obsolete makes archiving an extremely expensive undertaking. The librarians are more concerned about the archiving of the electronic journals themselves, or getting access to the archives established by the publishers or the aggregators. This paper focuses on the issues related to the archiving of electronic journals in Physics and Astronomy by the publishers, aggregators and the consortia.Item Automation and Academic Library Structure: Shaping the Future of University Library(INFLIBNET Centre, 2003-02) Satpathy, Sunil K; Swain, Chandra KThe paper highlights on Parija Library, the Central Library of Utkal University of Orissa in relation to possible structural differentiation in the era of library automation.
