Item Using Libguides/Research Guide to Enhance Personalized Service in Academic Library(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Behera, Sanat KumarFrom pathfinders to modern guides, Libraries are adopting different tools and technologies to provide quality service to its user. The growth of quantum of information & the weak paid ranking of search engines is creating a big challenge for the user to access relevant information. Library, as the guardian of the knowledge, has the potential to serve using different technologies. However, it needs extensive cooperation and collaboration from its user community. The library can guide the users if they understand the user queries, academic structure, research needs and information seeking modes. Library personalized service is user-centric service. It aims to personalize the content and serve in such a way that could assist users in getting relevant information and gain maximum user satisfaction. The paper has highlighted the process of personalized service, and how Libguides can be a useful platform for a library in achieving user satisfaction. It has also mentioned the primary personalized feature of libguides software.Item Plagiarism, a Critical Issue in Academic Research Integrity: Attitudes of Research Scholars(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Faizan, Mohd; Munshi, Shamim AktarThe purpose of this study is to investigate the awareness and attitude towards plagiarism of research scholars at the Aligarh Muslim University, India. The researchers have applied a quantitative study based on the survey method along with the questionnaire as a tool for survey instrument to achieve the research objectives. The researchers have personally distributed the questionnaires to the fulltime Ph.D. scholars in the Faculty of Social Science. The collected data analysed by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS), version 20, to know the frequencies, percentages and tabulations. The results of the study showed that the majority of research scholars are aware of plagiarism and they believed that it is wrong and immoral. The research scholars believed that the higher score, higher the chance getting a job at the university level, and because of this most of the research scholars produced their publications without keeping the research ethics and academic honesty in their minds and this lead to breaking academic integrity and cause of Plagiarism. However, it is suggested to the university authority to organize such workshops and orientation programs regarding plagiarism, so that scholars or neo-scholars will understand that it is a violation in academic integrity.Item Contemporary Practice in Library and Information Centers for The Academic Improvement of Colleges in Odisha(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Dash, Abinash; Chandrabati, BLibrary and Information Science profession has undergone impressive and brisk change during the last three decades under the overpowering impact of ICT. The future of the library is governed by the new technological innovations in the area of storage, retrieval and dissemination of information and the future of the information profession is very much dependant on their adoption by the information professionals. The new role of the Library and Information Centre in the knowledge society is needed to be sloping consequently. It is our responsibility as information facilitators and managers not only to inculcate the society through the technologies i.e., available but also to recognize the problems that need to be solved. Every profession should have professional accountability and moral values to respond to the need of the hour of the community at the right time and in the right point of view. A great care is taken to study the knowledge, attitude, and motivation of respondents. Findings are indicating that LISPs (Library and Information Science Professionals) are gladly accepting the change in their services and profession. They are showing a good and positive attitude towards SM. Most of the LISPs are in favor of using SM to promote and capture the attention of their users particularly those who are online savvy. The majority follow the new trend for giving library services. LISPs are taking it as a knowledge-sharing activity. They are mostly using Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, Blogging and YouTube. Some of them have also made online group to promote their library services. Some believe that there is a lack of proper training, lack of knowledge of some LISPs. They are also facing problems for the inappropriate fund and management negligence. It is also found that privacy may be a prime factor for such services. Connectivity to Network and problems due to the non-availability of electricity are also pushing back the use of SM for library services. Review of literature is done on the library and information science education globally to collect information on LIS education and its quality assurance. The study finds that apart from of few agencies like ALA in USA and CILIP in UK there is no agency or body at national and international level for quality assurance of LIS education. The study is limited to quality assurance of LIS education in India only. This paper enlightens about the quality assurance in LIS education in India. The main issues of quality assurance and the challenges are highlighted in this paper.Item Readers’ Advisory Service in LIS Education(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Thakare, Veena; Kumbhar, RajendraReaders’ Advisory (RA) is one of the important library services. This paper tries to throw light on the place of RA component in current LIS curriculum and its awareness among educators. The syllabi of all the universities in Maharashtra offering LIS course were assessed. Along with this, a questionnaire survey was conducted of all currently working LIS teachers, permanent and visiting. The collected data showed that almost none of the universities have RA portion in their syllabi. Information available in a library is valuable to the community for its development. Archives and records about a place or geographical community is a repository of the history of developments in that location. These can span various aspects of governance and administration from land use to water supply, from transportation to electricity, and others. From villages to cities, various records are collected and historical data is available. Indian customs and traditions could impact such records. Computerization of records has made them easily accessible. Smart city implementations can involve data collection and analytics for the benefit of their communities. There are privacy concerns around data from IoT and other technology platforms. Libraries have contributed to smart city developments. In places where there is conflict around control or access to such data, libraries can offer data archival, governance and analytical services so that smart city project data can benefit the intended communities.Item Twitter Sentiment Analysis: A Case Study of Ten University Libraries(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Parabhoi, LambodaraSentiment analysis is a computer rule based automatic process that has the ability to scrutinize the short text message, user comments, and other textual information and gives the sentiment score on a given subject. The current study is to examine the sentiment analysis of twitter comments of ten university libraries. The ten of universities list was compiled from World university rankings 2019 (Time Higher Education Website). A total of 15850 number of tweets collected between 1st Jan 2013 and 1st September 2019 via Twitter Application Programming Interface (API) for further analysis. The study found overall av. Pos. - av. Neg. was 0.4115. Out 15850 tweets majority of the tweets from The Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford about 2760 tweets and highest friend followers 76180 found. Significantly, The Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford was the highest Av. Nos. of positive sentiment (1.7728). However, the lowest Av. Neg. sentiment received by Yale Library about (1.1454). Moreover, the study found that the word “exhibition” (499) times and “archive” (401) times used in total tweets. Likewise, the word “Congratulations” found average positive sentiment (3.0152) mentioned in total tweets. The study recommended that the library can use social networking sites and examine the user comments, feedback, and reviews that, a user had given on different posts. By doing this, the library will be in better position to overcome the problem and make better decisions for future.Item Library Technology Solutions for Smart Libraries: A Comparative Study of IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay Library System(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Sahoo, Sambhunath; Panda, K CLibrary technology refers to those technologies which are mainly used in libraries for providing smart library services to their users, perhaps keeping in view of the implications of five laws of library science as envisaged by Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) recognized as Institute of National Importance, provide higher technical education and research in India. IIT Libraries are using latest technologies to provide smart library solutions to their users.This study used survey method to collect primary data through observation technique and questionnaire tool. The study selected two IITs, i.e. IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay who got Institute of Eminence (IoE) status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India and secured 2nd rank and 3rd rank respectively in NIRF-2019 under engineering category. Their Library plays a pivotal role in making them at the top. The main objectives of the study were to know what kinds of library technology used by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi Library System. The study found that both the IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi Library used library technology in different areas like library automation, library website, institutional repository, remote access, web-scale discovery system (WSDS), cloud computing and Web 2.0 applications. This study suggests appropriate measures for the improvement of existing library system of IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi. There is a continuous requirement of incorporating appropriate technological subjects in the curriculum. LIS professionals and administrators are continuously showing their concern about the quality of education being imparted by library schools in India. There is a need for LIS Departments to constantly finetune their syllabus to incorporate new modules and contemporary information handling skills to prepare the young professionals for the emerging areas of librarianship. The core subjects of library science education should be sustained and a layer of specialized skills and competencies of modern practices of information handling should be added over these
