Item Adopting Nudge Theory in Academic Libraries(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Cherukodan, SurendranPurpose -This paper examines the nudge theory revealed by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein in their book “Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth and Happiness” and the possibilities of its applications in academic libraries to enhance library services and library use. This paper tries to identify various nudge ideas and apply them to academic library environment. Application of nudge theory shall bring new insights for library professionals to influence users. Nudge theory will help librarians to become choice architects who have the responsibility for organizing the contexts in which people make decisions.Item Awareness and Use of Electronic Resources by Visually Impaired Students at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh: A Study(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Khowaja, Sufia; Fatima, NishatThe study was conducted in order to identify the awareness and use of e-resources by Visually Impaired students at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh by following survey technique in which structured interview was used as a research tool to gather precise data from 76 visually impaired students. The data so collected were analysed and tabulated using ‘SPSS version 23’. Findings of the study revealed that 100% visually impaired students are aware of e-resources, among the majority of students (96.1%) make use of e-books and e-newspaper (84.2%). In due course, it also came to light that these students are using e-resources for remaining updated (89.5%) and writing assignments (88.2%). Besides, it is also found that 85.5% of users find it difficult to use e-resources because of the compatibility issue with screen readers and it is also found that while performing various tasks electronically majority of them are having average experience. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the findings of the study will be helpful for library professionals and institutions serving visually impaired persons to develop effective electronic services in digital environment to access knowledge without any barriers as well as suitably designed survey can be applied to reveal similar trends in different institutions.Item Capacity Building of LIS Professionals in Digital Environment(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Vaishnav, Ashwini AThe paper defines the terms capacity & capacity building. Identified need for capacity building of LIS professionals, their roles, competency/ skills needed in digital environment. Gives knowledge, skills, traits to be possessed by Librapreneur/Entrepreneur, methodology of capacity building programmes, different phases of quality assurance. Suggests how LIS education can update competencies and skills needed to sustain in digital environment. DSpace, E-Prints are very popular among academic community and Omeka open source software which is widely used in archival and museum space. Role of Digital Library system used to capture, store, index, preserve and redistribute all scholarly research material in digital formats. This paper explains the open-source digital repository software with special reference to the availability of plugin features in Omeka which is not available with others two IR Software. This paper describes the feature of plugins, strengths, and weaknesses of Omeka as a software platform for creating and managing digital collections on the web. They manage a large store of data about collections to meet the requirements of users. Data in a digital library is growing and data analytics, visualization techniques are trying to make sense of voluminous amount of unstructured data. Space Applications Centre library provides various digital, online services, which generates lot of data in the form of transaction data, metadata and usage data. A large amount of budget is spent in subscription, renewal of e-resources and for accountability; data analytic tools are effective in producing insights from the usage data to understand users and improving library services. This paper attempts toanalyze library transaction data retrieved from KOHA Integrated library management software and usage data of library website and e-resources at the Library of Space Applications Centre,to make decisions inproviding efficient services by understanding and predicting user needs. The operational data is exported into a warehouse, cleaned and analyzed using Python language and its libraries. This paper covers different types of LMS, all the major e-learning tools, and standards, basic security issues, benefits and limitations of e-learning.Item Effect of Book Review Writing Activity on School Students' Reading Competencies: A Study(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Desale, Suvarna; Kumbhar, RajendraReading a review is a necessity before selecting any book to read. Writing a book review is an activity that can result in the development of various skills. This paper discusses the impact of book review writing activity on the reading competency of school children. Action research of one year was carried out on 40 students from 5th standard of a CBSE school to assess the effect of writing book reviews on their reading competency. The action research contained detailed monthly planning and execution by noting regular observations and reflections of the researcher. The data was collected through book reviews written by students as an assignment for library-teaching periods for the research duration. The actions were modified according to the observations of the population. The findings identified that students became more involved readers when they wrote a review of their reading. The writing of book review stimulated the discussion about the content of the book, which further enhanced the reading habit. So, it was concluded that book review writing is one of the most important activities to develop students’ reading and writing competencies, as well as clarity of thought.Item Enhancing Access to Library Electronic Resources through an E-library Portal: The RCSI Bahrain Library Experience(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) P Nair, Bindhu; Anand, EvelynThe library portal project aimed to improve accessibility and visibility of the Library’s online resources, simultaneously enhancing the user experience. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of the e-library portal on the usage of library electronic resources at RCSI Bahrain. Data was collected from library statistical reports. Usage reports from the portal were collected for the year 2018-19 and from individual vendors for the previous years. The study shows that the e-library portal has increased overall usage of library electronic resources. The recommendations for improving the e-portal service include: Upgraded interfaces and compatibility assessments, continuous collaboration between librarians and faculty in selecting and acquiring the most appropriate format of resources to support the curriculum and research needs of the users, well planned and executed marketing strategies for the resources, Workshops/ training in the use of resources and Assessment of the collection to ensure quality and relevance. The development and launch of the portal was not simply a means of enhancing current services and providing a user-friendly platform to access all resources. The portal changed the image of the library from a physical space to a digital companion in student life. Even though the launch of the portal has increased usage of electronic resources, the research needs to be extended to further years to review the access through portal. The library portal has increased the usage but there might be several other underlying factors adding to this, which need to be considered.Item Entrepreneurial Management of Human Resource for Capacity Building(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Chandel, A. In terms of research information management (e-resource), the Institutional Repository (IR) has played an immense role. Research data is another important asset of research which needs to be properly managed. The situations of research data management in European, American and Australian continents is very much advanced and are having a well research data management platform for their researcher. But when we study the research data management aspect basically in Indian context, then the situation is quite different than the other countries of the world. In Indian universities, a lot of research data has been collected by the researcher which is unutilized after the completion of research. This paper explores that what is the present status of research data management policy in Indian context. It also highlights on how India can have the research data management policy in the field of academics. It further reflects the proposed policy on how INFLIBNET centre can act as a national platform or nodal centre to build the anticipated IARDR. The paper at the end shows the merit and limitation of the proposed IARDR and the role of libraries.Item Information Literacy among Undergraduate Students of Sri Venkateswara Medical College and Guntur Medical College, Andhra Pradesh: A Survey(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2019-11) Murthy, P Rama; Padmini, KToday Information Literacy has become vital because of proliferation of information resources in all forms. Information literacy is a set of abilities require for individuals to identify the need for information, find, locate, evaluate and use information effectively and efficiently. The Present study explores information literacy among the students of Sri Venkateswara Medical College & Guntur Medical College, affiliated to NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The survey method was adopted for the study and 225 questionnaires were circulated among the medical students and 195 were received back for analysis with a response rate of 86.66%. Majority of the respondents were able to determine their information needs, types of information resources available; utilization of e-resources, and know the levels of awareness of social networking sites. This study found that a majority of the respondents of both medical colleges are needed information for updating their subject knowledge, frequently utilized information sources, social networking sites of both medical colleges. Most of the respondents here given top priority high skills in getting information in print and electronic format. The authors attempted to provide a comprehensive review on the available articles to generate inferences important to the field of library and information science.
