Item Role Of Library Network(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Shah, Kanubhai L.Item CD -ROM Databases The Practical Information Solution For The Librarians and Users(INFLIBNET Center, 1996-02-15) Kesavan, R VenkataDissemination of the right information to the right user, at the right time, at the right cost is the grass root principle of any information system. For which, the IT (Information Technology) helps in many ways, which is right from the invention of a personal computer to CD-ROM (Compact Disk-Read only Memory) technology. CD-ROM technology is mainly used in the intormetion storage and retrieval operations, which helps to handle the large volume of data (which can be textual, numerical, graphical) in a effective, accurate and faster way. In this information explosion era, culling out the required information is a challenging task to the librarians and information professionals. To succeed in this situation using the traditionally available information dissemination methods are not ideal and advisable. The ideal solution to handle such a large volume of data is the application of CD-ROM technology, the one which is quite cheaper and economical too. This paper deals about the general characteristic features of CORaM databases, hardware and sottwere requirements to set up a CD-ROM work station, popular CD-ROM databases available in various subjects, and the special benefits of CD-ROM databases, etc.Item Internet : A Global Network of Computer Networks(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Raj Kumar, P.V.Item Design And Development of A Serial : A Case Study(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Ms. Lakshmi R; Ravichandra Rao I. K.Development of a library database is a prerequisite for the automated library system. The commercial softwares available are neither inadequate to any particular library for specific functions nor economical. Also, most of these packages hardly adopted international standards. To overcome these problems, an attempt has been made to develop a software for create and maintennance of serial database. This paper discusses the importance of serial databases along with the usability of the programs developed in C++. Programs adopts CCF and ISO 2709Item Improvement of Technological Skills of Human Resource in Academic Libraries(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Deshpande, Ravikant M.The academic libraries, technological skills, need for planning, existing and new recruits of libraries, need of improvement and objectives are discussed. The planning envisages, financial resources, emergmg services, evaluation of training/services and total quality concept/management are a .few of the aspects discussed.Item Problems Of Large Library Database Creation(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Ganpule, S.R.It need not be overemphasized that for successful computerisation of libraries, it is necessary to have a sound database. Standardization of records in required not only for efficient retrieval within the library, but also to facilitate communication among the libraries far and wide. However creating such a database is a formidable task both in terms of workload involved as well as in terms of the expertise that is needed. fn the days when instant results is what is expected out of a project like library computerisation, the fact that database creation requires time and money - is a proposition very difficult to be digested by all the concerned people. The efforts to show the quick results further complicate already difficult problems. The first and major casualty is the quality of the database. It remains incomplete in contents as well as in standards. Several other complications are seen. This paper proposes to highlight the problems relating to database creation in a library which is unusually big. It attempts to suggest some alternative solutions.Item Creation and Utilisation of Database of Experts(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Veeranna, Cholin; k, PrakeshItem Making A Charge For Library And Information Services(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Gupta, Dinesh Ku.; Jain, S.L.Item Computer Assisted Compilation of State of the Art Report(INFLIBNET Center, 1996-02-15) Aptagiri, Devika; Satapathy, Sudhanshu Bala; Prasad, A.R.DDeals with the steps involved in compilation of a State-Of-The-Art Report (SOT AR). Discusses a methodology used forcomputerised compilation of SOT AR. Applies a simple computer assisted technique of using of CD-ROM databases in compiling the report. Gives a detailed description of the steps in which thework was carried out.Item Library Database Management Inputs From Expert Systems Technology(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Gopinath, M.A.The development in various processing stages of library and information system~ and expert system as an information system and the vice-versa, are discussed. Identifies, the interdisciplinary nature of classification studies, surrogation processes for content description, the qualities stipulated to represent subjects and ideas and the basic research done in the area of knowledge representation. The need for formalisation and scientific approaches to representation process is emphasised. Collaborative developments in exchanges of knowledge-bases between general schemes for classification has been indicated. Direction for future research in representation systems for knowledge in library systems is indicated.Item Selection of Hardware & software- Experience of Automation I.G.M.Library, University Of Hydarabad(INFLIBNET Centre, 1996-02-15) Pradeep, C.; Reddy, E.RamaDiscusses in detail the hardware and software requirements for library automation with criteria for selection of hardware and software.
