Various aspects of research performance are assessed using bibliometrics analysis. Firstly, at the national level, India’s (and other BRIC countries’) trends in output and India’s global share of output in selected scientific fields over time are presented. Secondly, at the institutional level, India’s selected top academic institutions and universities are assessed upon their national share of output, change in normalized field performance over time, normalized performance in the field they publish the most and what is the impact of their international collaborations on average citation rates. Additionally, a case study on the international collaborations of the Jadavpur University over the past 20 years is presented.Item Authorship of Indian LIS literature(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Lokhande, Amogh S; Sawant, Priti PThe UGC of India declared the librarians from universities and colleges ineligible to apply for research grants for major and minor research projects. Hence, this study was undertaken to find out if (Academic) Librarians produce research; if so, what is their share amongst authors of LIS research published from India. It was found that Indians are the largest contributors of LIS literature published from India, that nearly entire LIS literature published from India is contributed by LIS fraternity only, and that, among all Indian authors of LIS literature published from India, share of Academic Librarians is larger than LIS Faculty.Item Evolutionof Library Assessment Literature – A Bibliometric Analysis of LAC Proceedings(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Dash, Nrusingh Kumar; Sahoo, Jyotshna; Mohanty, BasudevThe purpose of this paper is to analyze the publications reflected in the Library Assessment Conference (LAC) Proceedings from 2006 to 2014. Some of the authors and organizations have shown their loyalty to the LAC and contributed in every proceeding from 2006 to 2014. It shows that 6 organizations have contributed in all the LAC proceedings with “University of Washington, USA tops the list with 32 contributions Similarly, the study of authors loyalty to LAC shows that 6 authors have shown their loyalty by contributing papers in all the LAC proceedings. “Martha Kyrillidou” and “Megan J.Oakleaf” tops the list with 12 contributions.Item Lotka’s Lawa and The Pattern of Scientific Productivity in the Gandhian Literature(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Singh, Shiv; Rana, Madan SinghThis paper offers a practical insight into the application of Lotka’s law of author productivity in Gandhian literature and also presents the collaborative pattern among the authors. In the present work significant effort has been made to collect all the periodical literature related to Gandhi and that are published in English up to 2010 from the various resources. The study reveals many imperative indicators concerning Gandhian literature, like for instance thatLotka's Law holds with respect to Gandhian Literature.Item Mapping the International Representation of the Botanical Survey of India(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) M E, Kalyani; A, BagavathiBotanical Survey of India (BSI) is the pioneer in the field of Indian Plant Taxonomy. Its core activity is the exploration and identification of national plant resources. The basics of all biotechnology related fields rely on the proper exploration and identification of the natural resources. In this concern, it is necessary to assess the research contribution of this highly privileged national institute in terms of undergoing a comparison between the two international citation databases. The Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) were the citation databases used in determining the international coverage of the research output of BSI. The results retrieved from those databases were studied in different aspects of scientometric variables such as total population count, citations count, prolific journals and articles. Also, prolific authors based on number of publications, citations received and h-index were taken into account. Additionally, a divergence prevailed in the coverage of citation databases with the institutional repository were also analyzed. After analyzing the databases in various aspects the findings have been registered. Suggestions have been given from the findings for the future improvements of coverage of research contribution in the international citation database from Botanical Survey of India.Item Metrics in Research Evaluation(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Huggett, Sarah; Lau, GeorginA recent rise in the accountability of research programmes, driven by economic circumstances, makes research evaluation increasingly needed. At the same time, computational advances and the advent of the Internet have given rise to a variety of metrics. If used appropriately, and in conjunction with peer evaluation and careful interpretation, these can inform and enhance research assessment through the benefits of impartiality, comparability, and scalability. Three initiatives (the DORA declaration, the HEFCE review of metrics, and the Snowball metrics project) have recently made the call for metrics to be appropriately used in research evaluation at various levels. Research assessment scenarios are multiple and complex; circumstances may shift for the same entities in different roles. A few easy tricks can help make the best use of metrics in research evaluation exercises: the use of trends, benchmarks and comparators, normalisation to size or resources, geographic or subject breakdowns, triangulation of indicators, and last but not least vigilant consideration of context.Item Relevance of Bibliometric Study in Ranking/Performance of the Institutes:A Case Study(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Mishra, Vinod KumarPresent case study attempts to find the relevance of bibliometrics in withdrawing the ranking/reputation of the Institutes.
