This paper deals with concept of Federated searching that provide facility to search over different databases in one interface. The challenges of today’s searching and need of federated searching is also dealt. The paper also describes the process and hub as well as local database relationship along with point to point model and broker model architecture. The factors affecting the federated searching are also covered. Nowadays, electronic resources, networks and the World Wide Web represent a large portion of the library services. The librarians must manage staff, information in several supports, and technical activities to produce quality services. Quality services means resources and services, which satisfy users’ expectations and perceptions. It is very clear that librarians must use management tools to run the library services. These tools such as TQM, SERVQUAL, LibQUAL help them to assess services, to make decisions, to improve services and to achieve a better quality. The networked environment offers libraries’ challenges and opportunities in a number of areas including management, services, and collection development. Library and Information centres and their similar organizations are also not an exception to this. A changing trend in the mode of procurement, storage, processing and particularly in the delivery of services of the libraries is observed in almost all the libraries of the modern age. Also there are libraries continuing the traditional services and attempting towards provision of new services. In the changing scenario, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) has been the most instrumental factor. In this backdrop, in our paper, taking Manipur University library, as a case study, an attempt has been made to highlight the innovative practices adopted in the mode of delivery of services.Item Implications of Data Mining in Digital Library Environment(INFLIBNET CENTER, 2007-12-07) Mishra, R NData mining, the extraction of hidden predictive information from large databases, is a powerful new technology with great potential to help the Libraries and Information Centers to focus on the most important information in their data warehouses. Data mining tools predict future trends and behaviors, allowing Libraries and Information Centers managers to make proactive, knowledgedriven decisions. The automated, prospective analyses offered by data mining move beyond the analyses of past events provided by retrospective tools typical of decision support systems. Data mining tools can resolve the problems in Libraries and Information Centers especially in a digital environment. Information plays a really important part in decision making in an organization. For an organization a wrong decision can lead to drastic result. This is on reason why information is steadily acquiring a more central role in business. In the world of today information is becoming increasing important. Generally speaking the standard of information security has not kept pace with this development. For example, information that before was saved on a large amount of paper and physically difficult to steal can today be saved on a disk that can easily remove. In this article author has discussed, what information security is. Why it is needed in an organization of 21 century. The CIA Relationship of information security is discussed with diagram. The information security chain has twelve modules and eighty sub modules. The overview of information security cannot be complete in such small paper; therefore author delimits herself to the most prominent module computer security. In the last future and conclusion of information security are highlighted. Information Security of IIT Kanpur system is also consulted in some of the modules. The proposed views of the Knowledge Portal for the Library Information Services in virtual research, collaborative environments for other areas of knowledge sharing and collaboration. Retrieving searching and filtering massive uncontrolled database of the Web pages presents new challenges. The role of traditional libraries has been changed by the introduction of Internet access. So the users now have access to more information than before; that they must rely on search engine to retrieve and rank the results of their searching. The difficulties faced in the making of the digital library have also been dealt with in the paper. The online questionnaire was mailed to faculty members and research scholars of Tezpur University to determine the views and feeling on use of electronic journals. The survey examines the current use of electronics and print journals of Tezpur University Library and distinguished between respondents’ format preferences for those journals that were most important to their research and teaching. The web Search Engines has been regarded as the second most used web service after the popular Internet service, i.e., e-mail. Worldwide search markets shows that more than 750 million people - an estimated 95 percent of global Internet users conducted 61 billion cumulative searches in every month. In this paper it has been discussed the magnitude of Search Engine. It has been seen that the Search Engines keep track of all the searches that the user formulates. The paper discussed the possibility of invading privacy by the well-advanced Search Engines and possible leakage of personal information by these web search services. Some solutions have been discussed to cope up with these Search Engines threats.
