Item Library Management Softwares : LIBSYS 7 & KOHA(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2014-08-25) Aute, Govardhan; Ghumare, ShivshankarPresent paper describes the LIBSYS & KOHA library management software packages. Acquired result reveal that both software packages are useful. LIBSYS library software brings a high level of certainty. The solutions offered by company are delivered on-time, are within budget, and come with high quality, better efficiency, and responsiveness. Open source package KOHA is found most useful and gives highest level of satisfaction to its users. Both packages are providing best services. On the basis of evaluation criteria, KOHA is most useful for library automation.Item Role oF INFLIBNET and DELNET in Strengthening the Availability of Reading Resources for Libraries : A Comparative Study(INFLIBNET Centre, 2014-09-02) Gautam, Anil KumarIn the present paper a comparative study of INFLIBNET and DELNET significant activities and services have been made. A new parameter on the basis of published conference papers in CALIBER and NACLIN has been devised for making the assessment of the services and activities organized by INFLIBNET and DELNET. Assessment has also been made on the effectiveness of these organizations contributing in making available the reading resources to their member libraries. Career and employment information is very much important for student community as it guides them towards career awareness. Now a days, every student talks about career and employment opportunities in their early college days. Career counseling plays a vital role among the students of rural degree colleges where they have no opportunity to go for professional career counselor. In this regard, Career Counseling Cell of the colleges should play a vital role. But in practice it is observed that the cell provides services on paper only. In most of the colleges, the cell exists only in the time of NAAC accreditation. This paper aims to study on digital library and its preservation, the main purpose of this study is to identify its strength, problems and trends. A survey has been carried out among different libraries of Assam. To collect the data a questionnaire method has been used.This paper also tries to give a glimpses of digital library initiatives in India taken from its very beginning.Item Status of ICT Applications in the Higher Educational Institutional Libraries of Sikkim: A Preliminary Survey(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Manoj, Nawal KishoreThe Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has played an important role in the library and information centre and changed the concept of libraries. The application of ICT is much essential for libraries and information centres because these centres are carrier of information which is useful for everyone. Use of ICT in library and information centres has become more important in the age of information explosion and widespread use of digital information resources. ICT in libraries helps in performing their routine operations and services most efficiently. Libraries are subscribing e-journals, CD-ROM databases, online databases, web based resources and a variety of other electronic resources for its users and all this is possible with the help of ICT applications. The first part of paper describes about the higher educational institutions and their libraries whereas the second part of the paper highlights the status of ICT infrastructure and computerisation of libraries in the higher educational institutions of Sikkim.Item Research Publication Trends of the Scientists of Tezpur University: A Scientometric Study(INFLIBNET Centre, 2014-09-25) Goswami, Rubi; Hazarika, TilakBibliographic records of 847 items retrieved from Web of Science were studied and increasing publication trends were seen in Tezpur University (T.U.). The average output of the organization was 60 publications per year; the peak was 200 items in 2012 and the minimum was 4 items in the year 1999. Single authorship publication accounted for 6%, while multi authorship publication of articles accounted for 94 %. The top 22 institutions which collaborated with T.U accounted for about 26% share. It was seen that the publications of T.U received a total of 4763 citations during the period of 14 years. Due to these technological invasions majority of libraries are getting converted into digital libraries which provide suitable help to fulfill their users’ basic objectives of providing relevant information. This is so because globalization of information is taking place and territorial boundaries are becoming meaningless due to developments in information and communication technology (ICT) and traditional constraints of time and space are disappearing. Capacity building involves man-machine interfaces to enhance operating efficiency, skills of employee of an organization towards the achievement of organizational goals. In order to make employees satisfied and committed to their jobs in academic and research libraries, there is need for strong and effective motivation at the various levels, departments and sections of the library. The present study was undertaken with a view to know the role of training program of LIS Professionals in their library services. The present study is based on the opinion of LIS professional from Rabindra Library, Assam University, Silchar and various college libraries which are affiliated under Assam University, Silchar in Cachar District, Assam. For this purpose, survey method has been adopted by the investigators, which comprises of administration of questionnaire, observation of the participants, and interview of the LIS professionals for knowing their view towards training program. The self-designed questionnaire has been distributed amongst the randomly selected samples. The filled up questionnaires have been collected from the respondents for data analysis and interpretations. For data analysis percentage calculations have been made. Findings of this study shows that training is essential for LIS professionals for developing their skill by attending conferences, workshop, refresher course, etc. to cope up with the capacity to handle latest technology.Item Library Portal:AMirror of the Library(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Barman, DhiruThe focus of this paper is library portal. It constitutes the physical space, physical media, digital resources, digital services and training etc. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Library System has done significant work to develop a healthy information commons to provide digital environment to assist the university students, researchers and faculties into their studies and research works. This paper presents the development of the information commons in the Central Library at Banaras Hindu University. It discusses the need and goals of the facilities to support the seamless access, collaboration and production of the scholarly outputs. The purpose of the study is to find the feasibilities to acquire new techniques and services to cope with the continuous paradigm shift towards the digital environment.Item Information Seeking Behavior of Scientists of ICAR, Meghalaya: A Study(INFLIBNET Centre, 2014-09-25) Choudhury, Monita; Sarmah, MukutUnderstanding about the information needs and seeking behaviour of agricultural scientists could play a vital role in gathering their information needs efficiently. Libraries can use this knowledge for reorienting their collections and facilities to adapt them to the needs of the scientific community. The main purpose of the study is to examine different facets of information seeking behaviour, and specifically the information needs and seeking behaviour of agricultural scientists of ICAR Institutes of Meghalaya, , use pattern and also different types of constrains faced by them.A survey method along with random sampling technique was used for the study. A well designed questionnaire was used as a data collection tool along with observations and informal interviews. Some of 68 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 65 questionnaires received with response rate of (95.6%). Findings indicate that guidance in the use of library resources and services and mainly updating the Institutes libraries is necessary to help agricultural scieninformation needs and seeking behaviour of agricultural scientists of ICAR institutes in Meghalaya.Item Capacity Building and Reformation of LIS Centers in the Present ICT Era(INFLIBNET Centre, 2014-09-25) Goswami, SadhanaCapacity refers to the ability of an organization to achieve its mission, doing so effectively over time (Linnell, 2003).This paper discuss the basic aspects of library capacity building leading to reformation of library and information service centers in the present changing scenario of ICT. Scholars from these universities published a numbers of intellectual works in different publication sources. SCOPUS is an indexing and abstracting database which facilitates for accessing the high quality published materials. The database is having a unique method of searching known as “affiliation search” strategy and the data for the institution publications are collected from it . The paper aims at investigating the different types of published materials by the Universities of N.E- India like articles, conference papers, review, erratum etc. The paper also identifies the peak period in which the growth of publication is maximum. The study intends to find out the institutional repositories rendered by college libraries in Golaghat District of Assam as well as users satisfaction from the existing services.Item Access of Electronic Resources in Engineering College Libraries of Assam: An Empirical Analysis(INFLIBNET Centre, 2014-09-25) Majumdar, Apurbajyoti; Majumdar, Sharmila BoseThe main objective of this research is to analyze and evaluate the use of web based-resources by the engineering college libraries of Assam. It covers the different types of academic users including faculty members, students and research scholars. It aims to consider the various factors of e-resources usage such as purposes, impact, importance, problems, acceptance, and satisfaction with e-resources. The survey was conducted with the help of a structured questionnaire followed by interview as and where it was felt necessary. Two formats of questionnaire were prepared; first, a printed format and second, an electronic format using Google Docs spreadsheet. The data so collected were analyzed and interpreted with the help of MS Excel. The study finds many aspects of e-resources use among engineering academics of Assam. It reveals that engineering college library users are using many types of e-resources. Using the e-resources, their academic/professional competency also improved. The teaching methodology also involved the e-resources uses and the students’ ability was also affected in a positive manner by this methodology. Some problems were also explored in using eresources. The majority of users were quite satisfied with using e-resources. The study was an attempt to evaluate the use of e-resources by users of engineering college libraries of Assam. Results from the study are encouraging and it is hoped that the findings will provide meaning and a useful platform for further research as well as usability among engineering academics will also be improved.Item Library Security Through Networking of CCTV Surveillance:A Study of Sikkim University, Sikkim(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Kumar, NeerajThis study examines the effectiveness of close circuit television security systems in university library with a focus on Sikkim University (SU) library, Sikkim. The study attempts to find out what close circuit television security systems are in use in university libraries and to ascertain the effectiveness of the close circuit television security devices in the libraries. The complex analogue CCTV has become even harder to understand with the introduction of digital compression techniques and networking.Item A Comparative Study on Library Automation Among the College Libraries of Sivasagar and Dibrugarh District in Assam(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Pegu, Tinku; Mahanta, Prafulla KumarThe paper is based on a comparative study on library automation among 20 college libraries of Sivasagar and Dibrugarh affiliated to Dibrugarh University. The methodology used for collecting data for the study is a combination of questionnaire and interview method. The findings of the study reveal that most of the college libraries of both the districts are not up to the mark at all in the application of the latest ICT in various housekeeping operations.
