Item Authorship Pattern and Degree of Collaboration in Indian Chemistry Literature(INFLIBNET Centre, 2011-03-02) Pradhan, Pallab; Panda, Saroj; Chandrakar, RajeshThe study presents the trends in authorship pattern and author’s collaborative research in Indian chemistry literature with a sample of 53,977 articles downloaded from SCI-Expanded database in Web of Science during the period 2000-2009. The average number of authors per article is 3.55 %. In the study the degree of collaboration (C) during the overall 10 years (2000-2009) is 0.03, but the year wise degree of collaboration is almost same in all the years of mean value 0.97. In the 10 years of period, the multi authorship articles are higher and predominant on single authorship. The study found that the researchers in chemistry are keen towards teamresearch or group research rather than solo research.Item Awarness and Use of Open Access and Free Resources on the Internet: A Case Study at BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus, Goa(INFLIBNET Centre, 2011-03-02) V, Anuradha; V, Gopakumar; Baradol, A KThe Internet is a huge source of free and openly available information. However, the awareness about the availability of such free and open source information amongst members of the academic community is not clearly known. This aspect was studied using a structured questionnaire and the data recorded through the survey was analyzed. The results reinforce the commonly held belief that the academic community is largely unaware of these vast and freely available resources. The study also points out the role a librarian can play in imparting awareness through information literacy sessions from the library .Item Building Digital Collection: An Action Plan for IGNCA & ECI Library(Inflibnet Centre, 2011-03-02) Chaubey, O NThis paper will discuss about action plan of IGNCA &ECI Library and explains the infrastructure (Hardware, Software and Network) and the most common issues which are arise in requirement for creating and managing the E-collections. It provides web based mechanism to deposit and access the same to the user community on to their desktop through intranet. It also illustrates how to build up digital repository using the DSpace software and creating the community, subcommunity. This paper also focus about how IGNCA Digital Library provides cost effective facility for systematic archiving of research results and others documents of the institution.Item Citation Analysis Of Doctoral Studies in Marine Geology(INFLIBNET Centre, 2011-03-02) Prasad, G Siva; Rao, G A Prasda; Rao, K VenkataReports a study of 52 doctoral theses in Marine Geology submitted to Andhra University during the period 1954-2009. A total of 9,453 citations were analysed for identifying their bibliographic form, authorship pattern, ranking of cited journals and subject wise distributions of citations. The finding reveals that nearly 71.27% citations were from journals and 13.51% from books. The subject wise distribution of theses reveals that sedimentology, Geology, Marine Geology, Oceanography, Geochemistry and General Science and forms 73.16% more than half of the total theses submitted during the period. USA, India and UK are contributes 7875 (83.77%) citations. The authorship patter study reveals that the highest number of journal citations from multi authors nearly 73.7%.Item Citation Analysis of Journal of Oilseed Research(INFLIBNET Centre, 2011-03-02) Kumar, Surendra; Kumar, SThe paper analyses 8093 citations given in the Journal of Oilseed Research (JOR) published during 1993 to 2004 (V.10-21). Out of 8093 citations 5642 are given in main articles and 2551 in short communications of the JOR. It also analyses types of documents cited and identifies core journals. The paper also covers the analyses of authorship patterns of citations along with calculation of collaboration coefficient. Geographical distribution of cited references has also been analyzed. The citations taken for the study are 5968. In the digital era these problems are solvable and avoidable. However do not imagine that you can throw away all the bibliographical standards that a physical library needs. Digital libraries need a good index and need quality catalogue records and good classification to supplement full text indexing which on its own can make retrieval of relevant materials difficult. Standards like MARC and classification schemes are indispensible as are standards necessary to create the information retrieval structure. There have been a few experiments in India with regard to provision of DVRS, and education and training for DVRS for a few years. This paper explores the need for a collaborative effort by academic libraries in India for digital and virtual reference services, and briefly describes SandarbhSoochna: a DVRS training initiative at PunjabiUniversity. Such efforts are a sine qua non for developing qualified and tr ained manpower that would transform the L&I services scene by managing knowledge and information resources effectively in a global electronic village. Trained manpower is the most crucial resource to act as catalyst for knowledge discovery and management from diverse sources. Federated search is essen-tially an umbrella search often utilizing, as far as possible, the search facilities already offered by each library resource. Federated searching, also known as meta searching, broadcast searching, cross searching, and a variety of other names, is the ability to search multiple information resources from a single interface and return an integrated set of results. These targets include the library’s collection of books, software, databases and online public access catalogs.
