Item An Analysis of Indigenous Knowledge Collection at Botanical Survey of India, Shillong(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Deka, Banasri; Das, Jitu; Das, Hemanta KumarIndigenous knowledge is the information gathered by indigenous communities within a particular area over many years. The study has been confined to the indigenous knowledge collection of the Botanical Survey of India, Shillong only. The main objective of BSI is to survey and document traditional knowledge (Ethno-botany) associated with plants. Most of the information is available in the form of books and project reports as well as research papers by BSI scientists. Apart from these sources one medicinal plant database is there with information of 1915 species, 1082 samples of Indian textile and 3000 samples of dye patterns in digitised form. They have collections on various fields like medicine, art & culture, local drinks, agriculture etc. Those resources are collected from different states of India across various tribes. Lack of awareness is the main problem faced by the organisation in collecting indigenous knowledge documents, but they are trying to create awareness by organising different programs.Item Assessing the Implementation of FAIR and CARE Principles in Libraries of Assam(2024-09-19) Chetia, Anupama; Hangshing, JangkhohaoThis study addresses the implementation of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and CARE (Collective benefit, Authority to control, Responsibility, Ethics) principles in managing the indigenous knowledge within libraries of Assam. Through review of literature and surveys using questionnaires, it assesses the current status of indigenous knowledge management in surveyed libraries. The study also appraises the integration of FAIR and CARE principles in Acquiring, Preserving, and Disseminating Indigenous Knowledge dataset. The findings from the study highlight the challenges faced by libraries such as limited access to knowledge, limitation of funding, lack of specific protocols/guidelines, and insufficiently trained staff to handle ethical and cultural concerns. The study also offers recommendations to enhance the implementation of FAIR and CARE principles for preserving and disseminating Indigenous knowledge effectively.Item Mapping the Global Terrain of OpenDOAR Utilization: Insights from Data Visualization Approach(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Esh, Manash; Ghosh, SaptarshiOpen-access repositories have become essential platforms for distributing scholarly knowledge globally, fostering accessibility and collaboration within the academic community. Understanding the landscape of OARs and use patterns across different regions is vital for advancing scholarly communication and research dissemination practices. This study maps the global terrain of OpenDOAR (Directory of Open Access Repositories) through a comprehensive analysis using data visualization techniques. Leveraging data from OpenDOAR, insights into the geographical distribution, software preferences, content types, and growth trends of OARs are provided. Advanced data visualization techniques, including dynamic pie charts, line plots, and choropleth maps, offer a nuanced understanding of OAR usage patterns. The analysis reveals significant disparities in repository distribution across continents, with Europe leading in repository count, followed by Asia, North America, South America, and Africa. The United States, Japan, and Germany emerged as top contributors to the repository count. Longitudinal analysis indicates consistent repository growth in the USA, Japan, and Germany, while other countries show varying trends. The analysis of software usage across continents reveals variations in adoption and use within scholarly repository ecosystems, with DSpace emerging as the most widely adopted software globally. This study provides valuable insights into the evolving landscape of OAR usage, offering implications for researchers involved in scholarly communication and research dissemination. Understanding these trends can inform strategic decision-making regarding software selection, resource allocation, and collaborative opportunities within the global scholarly community.Item Preserving and Promoting Indigenous Knowledge Resources in Libraries: Initiatives, Challenges and Goal with Special Reference to College Libraries of Assam(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Choudhury, Gargi; Kalita, DeepjyotiDespite the abundance of indigenous knowledge across various developing world communities, its availability doesn't guarantee accessibility or utilization. Libraries can enhance access to this knowledge by fostering environments conducive to face-to-face discussions and networking, enabling community members to engage in debates and exchanges on topics beneficial to them. Globally, there is a growing recognition of the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous knowledge, much of which is transmitted orally. This study focused on college libraries in Assam to understand their current status of handling Indigenous Knowledge Resources (IKR), preservation efforts and future plans. It is also expected that in academic libraries like college libraries, there may not be always a separate section for IKR, but it is expected to handle IKR due to suggested curricula of various courses. The findings reveal that these libraries are actively pursuing initiatives to safeguard indigenous knowledge despite facing numerous challenges. Despite these obstacles, libraries remain committed to their long-term goal of preserving and promote this invaluable heritage.Item Publication Pattern of Faculty Members of Tezpur University, Assam: A Study through Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS) and Web of Science (WoS)(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Saikia, Mukesh; Das, BipashaThe proposed study presents an overview of Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS), a Research Information Management (RIM) software for Intellectuals and Scholars, designed to enhance collaboration and scholarly networking within academia and R&D communities. IRINS integrates seamlessly with existing research management systems and supports various academic identities, ensuring widespread access to scholarly publications across diverse subject categories. Through its database and analytics capabilities, IRINS provides insights into scholarly activity and impact, facilitating transparent evaluation of research engagement. Additionally, the abstract discusses the significance of publishing patterns in research, emphasizing their role in disseminating knowledge, establishing scholarly reputation, and tracking research impact and productivity. The objectives of the study include identifying top faculty members, analyzing departmental productivity, and examining publication distribution. Methodology involves data collection from the Tezpur University website and the Web of Science database, followed by meticulous analysis using Excel spreadsheets. Findings highlight top authors, productive departments, and publication distribution across various academic disciplines. Traditionally, the humanities discipline uses critical or hypothetical methods that include substantial historical elements. Critics say that humanities are the foundation of the scientific fields; it has paved the way by teaching history and discussions by describing which method is right and which is not. Applying digital technologies to the humanities is a modern approach to solving and advancing research problems. With the transformation of libraries to digital libraries, artificial intelligence can also enormously impact libraries. By integrating AI into libraries, the efficiency and effectiveness of services increase. With the advent of the PID Open Researcher and Contributor ID [ORCID] into the faculty profile management systems at the IITHYD, the visibility factor of the IITHYD intellectual research output had a significant impact. The phase-wise shift of the institutional repositories embedding the vitality of the persistent identifiers has changed the perception of the institutional repositories as one channel for creating the awareness of research visibility, encouraging the researchers to publish in the repositories for better outreach of the research.Item Accessibility of Indigenous Knowledge in the College Libraries of Assam: An Analytical Study(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Chakraborty, Kankana; Kalita, Deijee; Devi, SilpisikhaIndigenous knowledge (IK) contains views, beliefs, traditions and practices followed by a community or individual. This paper contains the views and initiatives of the college libraries of Assam towards the preservation and dissemination of IK. The study shows that 62% colleges have the collection of indigenous resources within their library. It indicates that most of the college library procures Manuscripts (both Sanchipat and Tulapat). 68.60% of college libraries have the collection of Sanchipat manuscripts. Some other indigenous collections are like hand written documents, inscriptions, artifacts etc. Libraries are taking various initiatives towards preservation of IK. They are organizing various awareness programmes and seminars. Majority of the libraries kept it for display only and some of them adopted the digitization initiatives. 26.90% libraries make the digitized manuscripts available through their digital repositories. Though the library and the librarians are taking various steps towards preservation of IK, they are facing some problems. They don’t have separate policies as well as separate funds for this kind of activity. Some of them don’t have digital devices to digitize them. On the other hand indigenous resources are collected mainly from local individuals and religious places. But the local community sometimes doesn’t want to donate such resources. The lack of trained staff is a very big issue in preservation of such resources which can be fulfilled by organizing training programmes for the staff. It is the responsibility of every individual to preserve our indigenous resources for the future and make it accessible to the upcoming generation.Item University Libraries in Assam: Driving Progress on Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education)(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Anam, Aalia; Borgohain, TrinayanIn order to create a sustainable future for all people, the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015. These goals are to protect the environment, ensure excellent health and quality education, end hunger, poverty, and injustice, and advance economic growth. Libraries are hubs for knowledge dissemination and information, making them inclusive places for people of various racial, social, and cultural backgrounds. By facilitating information access and literacy, fostering a learning environment that encourages high-quality education, and offering resources and information, libraries can help accomplish sustainable development target 4. The purpose of this work is to investigate how university libraries of Assam contribute to the attainment of sustainable development goal 4 i.e. Quality education. A structured questionnaire was designed and distributed among 22 University libraries of Assam and out of that 20 libraries were returned the questionnaire. Results of the study revealed that all these 20 libraries are aware about SDG 4 and 75% of libraries have taken initiatives as a part of quality education. The findings support the fact that university libraries of Assam contribute significantly to support quality education by providing access to relevant information, engaging in educational conferences and events, promoting lifelong learning among students, information literacy etc. The study also discussed the problem faced by university libraries to promote quality education.Item Documentation on Traditional Herbal Medicinal Practices in Udalguri and Karbi Anglong, Assam(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Das, Hemanta Kumar; Kropi, Klaret; Naga, Moses MTraditional knowledge is abandoned by the particular community and passed to the next generation verbally. Due to the nature of knowledge flow traditional knowledge, needs to be documented so that we will not lose the knowledge and can use it for problem-solving activities for living beings and the benefit of the planet Earth. Documentation of Traditional Knowledge is a process of collecting, classifying, recording, preserving, and communicating the information in a readily accessible form which is an indispensable aspect of libraries. Traditional herbal medicine practices are an integral part of various communities inhabiting Assam. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities associated with adopting a meta-librarianship approach and provides recommendations for libraries to embrace this futuristic paradigm shift successfully.Item Awareness and Perception of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among Library Professionals in Assam: A Study(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Ezaz, Naeem; Borgohain, TrinayanIn 2015, the United Nations established the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework, aiming to combat poverty, promote equality and justice, and achieve sustainable development worldwide by 2030. In order to emphasize the critical role that libraries play in sustainable development, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) adopted the UN Agenda 2030.This study aims to investigate the awareness and perspectives of library professionals in Assam regarding the UN's SDGs. A structured questionnaire was created with the study's aims in mind, and it was sent to Assamese library professionals both offline and online. A total 233 Library Professionals respond we have received. The study showed that the majority of participants were aware of the SDGs, and 44.54% of them strongly committed to advancing these goals through their library work. However, the study also found that a significant 89.7% of respondents reported a lack of collaboration with external organizations or stakeholders to advance the SDGs. The study examined the challenges faced by library professionals in Assam in promoting the SDGs and it found that lack of awareness among library staff and inadequate training as the primary obstacles.Item A Study on Digital Reading Habits and Digital Reading Preferences among the College Students in Kamrup (Metro) District of Assam(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Kalita, Jyoti; Ahmed, ZabeenThis study examines the digital reading habits and preferences of college students in Kamrup (Metro) District, Assam, with a focus on identifying differences between genders and fields of study. The research aims to explore variations in digital reading habits and preferences between male and female students, identify correlations between these habits and preferences, and assess disparities across different streams—Arts, Commerce, and Science. Based on these objectives, hypotheses were formulated to test for significant differences and correlations within the specified population. Using a descriptive survey method, data were collected from 200 students across five provincialized general degree colleges, chosen based on gender and academic discipline distribution. A semi-structured questionnaire on Google Forms was used for data collection, with gender and academic discipline as independent variables, and digital reading habits and preferences as dependent variables. Statistical analyses, including t-tests and ANOVA, were conducted on the collected data. The study's findings highlighted the digital reading behaviors of college students in the area and established a close relationship between digital reading habits and preferences. Additionally, it was found that students have yet to fully leverage the benefits of digital reading in their educational pursuits.Item Assessing Library Professionals of among Top Seven IITs Registration Status on IRINS(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Dutta, Mintu; Paul, SnehasishThe research conducted is based on the registration status of library professionals of the Indian Institute of Technology in the Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS) platform. IRINS is an extensive platform used for the handling of research information which gives important information on the publications and citations of academicians of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) across India. It primarily focuses on how IRINS can improve scholarly communication and research support services extended by library professionals and evaluates the adoption and use of IRINS by the library professionals, based on the data collected from the IRINS platform and other added information. This paper highlights the effects of IRINS on the institutional, departmental, and individual progress in the academic and research environment while looking into the features, benefits, and potential of integrating it. The results indicate that IRINS plays as an integral part of enhancing the profile of LIS professionals, making them collaborate with other institutions to build their research capacity within them. Future studies on the strategic use of IRINS by library professionals would be provided a clear picture of the registration trends and utilization patterns, offering insights for implementing impactful interventions.Item A School Library, Moulding Young Minds and Providing Responsible Citizens to the Society: A Case Study(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Bose, Sohini; Mukherjee, LopitaSchool Libraries are an inseparable part of school education. They play an important role in nation building. Studies regarding school libraries have revealed that reading habits of students have a huge impact on their mind. Reading books not only improves mental functioning but also affects their character in a very positive way. Students of an English medium missionary school having more than 3000 students in Kolkata city are interviewed. A semi structured questionnaire is provided to them for their response. Only matured students of class XI and XII are surveyed. The findings show there is a great demand for Adventure and Romantic stories. It has been found out that the students are influenced a lot by reading. It is concluded they should be motivated to read books in every possible way.Item Assessing Andhra University PG Students' Digital Literacy: Digital Resources' Learning Impact(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Rao M, Hema Sundara; Prasad, G Siva; Sundar M, Sharath; Biswas, HimangshuThis study looks at the effects of the Internet on learning environments and the usage of digital literacy skills (DLS) by post-graduate (PG) students. The study examined how the Internet impacts education and shows how postgraduate students at Andhra University use their digital literacy and general competency to enhance their academic performance. Two hundred postgraduate students were the study's target group. The respondents were selected using a non-probability sample. To gather the information, students had access to a standard online survey. Additionally, the data was examined and assessed using SPSS software. The research shows the importance of creating awareness among students by the university library staff. Also, it analyses digital literacy, which encompasses the ability to use digital tools for analysis, research, and communication, efficiently access online resources, and evaluate information critically. Nevertheless, the Internet underscores the importance of digital literacy abilities among the student community. The Internet has notably influenced the academic landscape by providing access to vast information and fostering technological skills development.Item Role of State University Libraries to SDGs via Training, Innovation and Infrastructure in Kamrup(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Haloi, Niki; Hazarika, RajnandiniLibraries, as crucial tools for accomplishing sustainable development objectives, ought to give the public, easily available access to sufficient and pertinent information. In the present digital era, the role and applications of libraries change drastically all over the world. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global set of objectives that were approved by the United Nations in 2015 as part of its 2030 agenda for sustainable development. The global agenda has 17 distinct goals that include a range of social, economic, and environmental domains, all geared towards tackling the most critical global issues. Libraries facilitate access to high-quality information, data, and research infrastructure, thereby promoting innovation and competitiveness. It is a depth analysis which will focus on the contribution and the obstacles faced by University libraries towards achieving SDGs through training, innovation and infrastructure. University libraries can better perform their function as active hubs of learning, research, and community involvement by implementing the SDGs into their operations.Item A Topic Modeling-Based Bibliometric Exploration of Indigenous Knowledge Research(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Das, Banani; Saloi, AnkitaThis study investigated the topics used by the Indian authors in the Indigenous knowledge research domain. A bibliometric approach is explored to identify the research done so far on the said topic by the Indian authors, collaboration pattern, and top contributing institutions. Topic modelling is used to identify the topics used by Indian authors. A relationship map is also drawn between the topics and the documents to understand the topic-wise nature of each document, and how the concepts are interrelated. A total of 821 articles contributed by Indian authors in Web of Science (WoS) indexed journals were selected for the study. The articles were analysed in terms of growth, citation rate, top-cited articles, contributing institutions, and inter-country collaboration with Indian authors. A topic modelling approach using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method was also used to determine the topics used by the Indian authors in the Indigenous knowledge research domain using KNIME software. Most of the topics used by the Indian authors are - plants, medicine, farming, fishing, biodiversity, species etc. A topic v/s document analysis is also done that shows the interrelationship between topic and documents. USA found to have the highest collaborative research with India in field of Indigenous knowledge research domain. The publication trend shows that many articles have been published after 2019. Implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that encourages preservation of Indigenous knowledge might be one of the reasons that escalate the publication in this research domain.Item A Topic Modeling Study on Contemporary Latent Topics and Current Trends in Open Access LIS Journals listed in DOAJ(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Thakuria, Abhijit; Bezbaruah, Parimita; Deka, DipenThe study employed Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling to analyze bibliographic data (Titles, Abstracts, and Keywords) of 1640 articles published during 2019-2023 from Open Access LIS journals listed in the DOAJ platform and indexed in Scopus database. The study utilized R statistical platform and used coherence method to determine optimal number of topics k=8. This analysis unveiled eight latent topics, with Topic 8 'Library Management' emerging as the most prevalent topic with prevalence score of 23.291. Moreover, Topic 6 'Knowledge Management' and Topic 4 'Bibliometrics' were identified as stable and popular topics, with respective Annual Growth Rates (AAGR) of 15.99% and 12.39% in OA LIS literature.Item Role of Mobile Information Services for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Libraries of Assam(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Medhi, Purabi; Hangshing, JangkhohaoThe purpose of this research is to explore the use of mobile information services in libraries across Assam (India) to promote sustainable development goals. The study aims to accomplish several objectives, including identifying the various types of mobile information services available in libraries, evaluating their readiness to adopt these services, analyzing the potential benefits of these services in promoting literacy and knowledge dissemination, and identifying challenges faced in implementing them. The study's results showed that e-resource access is the most widely available mobile information service in the surveyed libraries, but other services such as mobile catalogue access, account management, and digital library services are less available. Despite this, the majority of library users actively use these services, indicating a growing demand.
