Libraries can enhance access to this knowledge by fostering environments conducive to face-to-face discussions and networking, enabling community members to engage in debates and exchanges on topics beneficial to them. Globally, there is a growing recognition of the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous knowledge, much of which is transmitted orally. This study focused on college libraries in Assam to understand their current status of handling Indigenous Knowledge Resources (IKR), preservation efforts and future plans. It is also expected that in academic libraries like college libraries, there may not be always a separate section for IKR, but it is expected to handle IKR due to suggested curricula of various courses. The findings reveal that these libraries are actively pursuing initiatives to safeguard indigenous knowledge despite facing numerous challenges. Despite these obstacles, libraries remain committed to their long-term goal of preserving and promote this invaluable heritage.Item Exploring the Future Possibility of Generative AI in Libraries: A Comprehensive Study(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Konch, Prasanna Kumar; Hazarika, Hirakjyoti; Achumi, Akhevi SThis study explores the burgeoning field of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the library sector, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize library services, user engagement, and content creation. In the Indian academic landscape, where research output is increasingly viewed as a measure of institutional success, the temptation to utilize generative AI for expedited publication can potentially undermine the rigor and authenticity of scholarly work. As publications in academic journals carries a kind of prestige for academicians, therefore it is necessary that journals take required initiatives so that people can’t just simply write anything with GAI and publish it the journals. Journals need to have proper guidelines regarding the use of GAI in their published peer reviewed contents. This research paper aims to address the nature of guidelines adopted by the Top Indian journals indexed in Scopus regarding the use of GAI in research publications. The current study took the example of four subject disciplines and made an analysis. The study finds that 70% of the top Indian journals from the discipline of Mathematics, Business management and accounting have at least some guidelines regarding the use of GAI, while in the discipline of Medicine only 40% have it. It is observed that guidance specific for ChatGPT use and guidance for any LLMs use are the most popular parameter. The study identified the lack of standardized and structured guidelines about the use of GAI provided by the journals for the authors.Item Assessing Library Professionals of among Top Seven IITs Registration Status on IRINS(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Dutta, Mintu; Paul, SnehasishThe research conducted is based on the registration status of library professionals of the Indian Institute of Technology in the Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS) platform. A bibliometric approach is explored to identify the research done so far on the said topic by the Indian authors, collaboration pattern, and top contributing institutions. Topic modelling is used to identify the topics used by Indian authors. A relationship map is also drawn between the topics and the documents to understand the topic-wise nature of each document, and how the concepts are interrelated. A total of 821 articles contributed by Indian authors in Web of Science (WoS) indexed journals were selected for the study. The articles were analysed in terms of growth, citation rate, top-cited articles, contributing institutions, and inter-country collaboration with Indian authors. A topic modelling approach using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method was also used to determine the topics used by the Indian authors in the Indigenous knowledge research domain using KNIME software. Most of the topics used by the Indian authors are - plants, medicine, farming, fishing, biodiversity, species etc. A topic v/s document analysis is also done that shows the interrelationship between topic and documents. USA found to have the highest collaborative research with India in field of Indigenous knowledge research domain. The publication trend shows that many articles have been published after 2019. Implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that encourages preservation of Indigenous knowledge might be one of the reasons that escalate the publication in this research domain.Item Local Support System for UN-SDG:3@Medical Libraries: An Assessment(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Iroshini, Ningombam; Singh, Charoibam IbohalThe paper assesses the role of local medical libraries in attaining the SDG-3, outlining various roles they performed towards realizing the health agenda. Following an exploratory approach and conducting an extensive review of related literature and personal interviews with professionals of leading medical libraries of Manipur: Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), and Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), it attempts to trace their roles in achieving SDG-3. The study focussed on two research questions to be answered through a) a review of the past studies and b) an evaluation of the interview responses, which aims to reveal if the local libraries support the agenda of the UN-SDG:3 and if so, to what extent. However, as the analysis observations have revealed, more activities need to be executed by the medical libraries of Manipur to achieve the different targets of SDG-3. A local support system must be implemented to achieve these global goals.Item Ethics, Integrity, and Policy Concerns in using AI Technologies in Scholarly Works(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2024-09-19) Padhan, Dhirendra Kumar; Kampa, Raj KishorThe present study digs into the galaxy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) uses in education and learning, particularly scholarly writing.
