Item e-Learning: Initiatives in India(INFLIBNET Centre, 2013-03-23) Pallavi; Kumar, Abhishek; Thakur, ArchanaThe rapid growth in the e-content development using web technology and its ever increasing usage has given unprecedented opportunities to educators to extend teaching material to students not only within the four-walls of their class rooms but also in the comforts of their home all over the globe. Indian Government has taken a number of initiatives, and awarded a no. of e-content development projects under NME-ICT for the growth and development of e-learning environment. The targeted users are not fully availing the e-learning opportunity of such initiatives. The bigger challenge is to get the attention of target users or in the other word to spread the awareness amongst its target users so that the e-learners not only get the maximum benefits from the projects but also participate in its creation and evolution through interactive Learning Management System (LMS) platforms. With increases use of ICT in education and setting up of National Mission in Education through ICT (NMEICT) in 2009, e-learning has become the most popular learning method that helps a learner to learn at his own place. In this article we have defined the e-learning and studied about the major initiatives taken by Government of India for e-learning & self education. The article also develop upon the categories of the learner and their respective e-Learning choices among the e- GyanKosh, Sakshat, FlexiLearn, NPTEL, CEC, Institute of Lifelong Learning (ILLL), and e-PG Pathshala.Item Web-based Content Analysis of Gujarat Agricultural University Libraries: A Study(INFLIBNET Centre, 2013-03-23) Harsahdkumar, J PatelThe role of the library web site and the nature of its contents will also evolve. Researchers always prefer to search, browse, and follow favourite journals in their field of interest 1. More than 80% of the budget is invested on journal literature by research and academic libraries. Migration to online only subscription is happening faster in libraries to take advantage of its benefits and to meet the demand of the users for accessing information without any restriction of time and space. The shift from print to ‘online only’ needs to be done carefully, bearing in mind the visibility problem of e-only journals. It is necessary to ensure every reader his/her (online) journal and every (online) journal its reader2. User’s preference is to discover articles with a facility to search and locate them using simple full text search features rather than journal titles. Libraries need to re-design the methods for accessing journal literature. New generation discovery tools and Library 2.0 technologies are the best solution to make the journal literature more visible to the users. Personalized services like TOC RSS feeds and TOC alerts are the right tools to promote the usage of journal literature. The paper ‘Linking Users and Online journals in TOCosphere3’ traces the initiatives taken to improve the discoverability of journal literature. A detailed picture of JournalTOCs service from Heriot-Watt University, UK is presented. Implementation of the customized version of this service in VSSC Library is also reported.Item A Strategy to Reveal Hidden Treasures of Anna University(INFLIBNET Centre, 2013-03-23) Bharanidharanan, SThis paper provides an understanding of the necessity of creating an Institutional repository (Reveal Hidden Treasures)in Anna University, various steps involved in the creation – data identification and selection, data collection, Design and development that involves software selection & finally maintenance of the repository. Tech. as well as M. Tech. University College of Engineering, JNTU, Kakinada. A structured questionnaire throws up all the desired data out of a sample size of 100 students. A majority of the students rank high on the awareness level in relation to the availability of e-journals in the library. Interestingly, valuable inputs provided by library staff, peers, and faculty in general, is found as the biggest contributing factor to this higher level of awareness. Further, analysis puts the tag of ‘most favoured place’ to the central library as far as access to e-journals is concerned. Research requirements stand at the top of the e-journals’ search priorities among students. However, typical problems/snags, such as lack of uniform accessibility and abysmally sluggish downloading rate dampen the user spirits. Even though, widely perceived as a highly productive source of information by students, yet the students do not rate themselves as serious users of e-journals. They consider up-gradation of skills as a serious and urgent necessity. Besides, half of the students register satisfaction with the availability of e-journals in the library. However, a sizeable majority exudes optimism about the usefulness of users’ awareness programmes and look forward earnestly to such programmes.Item LIS Forum: Professionals Dias in ICT Era(INFLIBNET Centre, 2013-03-23) Basosle, Medha G; Dharmapurikar, Ranjeet GIn information technology era, different on-line forums in different subjects are now working as a guiding tool, news providing tool, information providing tool, etc. These forums are playing the role of on-line conference, seminar, workshop, etc. author of this article is a member of nearly five to six online LIS Forums.
